One of my favorite albums from the latter half of DT's catalog, and rather underrated by critics IMO. The best release at least between Metropolis, pt2, and Black Clouds and Silver Linings.

I think overall I totally agree with everything you said. Although I always sleep on how fantastic Six Degrees is as a whole too. Train of Thought and Sys Chaos are favorites of mine as well. The DT catalog from 99-07 is pretty fucking sharp.
Octavarium was a very important album for me growing up, got me into Dream Theater and helped pushed the door open to prog for me as it was newer and American. My enjoyment of Genesis, Yes, Rush, ELP, and King Crimson as well as "challenging music" of other styles can honestly be traced back to Octavarium and Metropolis Part 2. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

I want to call this type of progressive rock "robo-progressive". As in it's overly technical, cold, and lacking any real emotions like a robot. I did like it when I was 15 though. :/

Quite possibly DT's coolest album cover as well.
