i say we just ignore it. some people really do rate albums they haven't listened to, future release or not. not much we can do to curb that, and what's to stop them from waiting til it's released to do the same thing?
Completely agree! Just a small nuisance if anything. Not worth devoting finite resources too!
Just been investigating stopping ratings on future releases, but there's a couple of little obstacles stopping me doing this as easily as it first seemed e.g. new album added but no release date to check against - a lot of albums can hang around a few weeks before being fully updated (other albums may have no release date because one cannot be legitimately found and these are already flagged); album added with wrong release date which is then updated to a future release (but contains existing ratings). might be easier to add a system to flag ratings on future relleases...

Yeah a built-in reporting system for ratings sounds like a good idea. Should it just apply to releases people can't possibly have heard, or also to scenarios when people rate every album in a discography a 5 or 10 (despite obviously not hearing them all)?
Definitely accept there is an issue here, but opening a bit of a flood gate. it's difficult/impossible to prove somebody has listened to an album/track or not and this site operates under a lot of time constraints and don't think it will be possible to keep up and investigate every single report so difficult to referee this given the possible volume (and the friction it might cause).
