"Sometimes I get the feeling..."

...that Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) is just a blatant rip off of Heartbeats.

it's a fine album but does it really need to be this high? i know y'all love your funerals and shit but this is a bit much

While there are a couple of fantastic songs here, this is the station that served as my getting off point for Arcade Fire. But yeah, with that said, that Sprawl song is a classic.

It wouldn't be a The Suburbs album of the day thread without me claiming this is their best, so...this is their best.

Okay, I'll be the one who says it: I don't at all understand how this is a top 50 album.

And top album of the 2010s? Definitely not...

I really like this album a lot.
Is it a classic? Too early to tell.
But, its really nice to have a band present a unique sound.
Great visual presentation.
Apparently the crowd dresses up for their shows.
That is a super cool environment full of energy.

They hit a grand slam with this album!!!

Yeah? I don't know. I get more of a "Heart of Glass" vibe. Though, both are there.

At any rate, this is my favorite Arcade Fire record. More so than Funeral, even--which would be perfect if it wasn't for "Crown of Love," whose appeal I'll never get. This is their most well-rounded and conceptually satisfying record. Maybe there aren't dizzying highs like "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" or "Rebellion (Lies)," but The Suburbs is no slouch. The title track, "Ready to Start," "Empty Room," "Suburban War," "Deep Blue," "We Used to Wait," "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)," etc., all rule. Hell, even "The Suburbs (Continued)" is a highlight. And really, it's been a steep downhill trajectory ever since. I mean, they peaked and fell off a cliff here. At any rate, this is a fucking great record. Still holds up.

Track picks
1. The Suburbs
2. Ready To Start
5. Empty Room
12. Deep Blue
15. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

Definitely closer to Heart of Glass. Still a fantastic song.

As for the album, it's one of those albums when I don't listen to it for a certaion period of time, I start to wonder why I rate it so high and start to question it's quality. Yet when I do listen to it, it just gets me every time. Not their best (Funeral is just a touch better), but their most well rounded, consitent release. The whole album carries such a nostalgic, bittersweet feeling and I can realy connect with it.
