Nazareth, Uriah Heep and UFO are underrated compared to other hard rock bands but still more known than other lesser known ones. I think all three are pretty much just as awesome as someone like Zeppelin, Scorpions, Deep Purple etc.. but they just aren't as highly ranked.

eh probably UFO or Uriah Heep -- UFO has some of the best hard rock licks in the 70s thanks to Michael Shenkers contributions on Force It, No Heavy Petting, and Phenomenon. Uriah Heep has a few records I go back to and they are no doubt super important to heavy metal's development, but UFO just has one of the best runs.

I agree UFO are pretty great. They had five pretty perfect albums in a row in the 70s, the ones you listed, Obsession and Lights Out. Nazareth would by my second choice.

Lot of great lesser known hard rock bands in the 70s, never really thought much of Nazareth but bands like UFO, Uriah Heep, Primevil, Sir Lord Baltimore, Blues Creation, and Vanilla Fudge were more my kind of thing.

Don't forget Budgie. Budgie were one of the best. I'd pick them over any of these three.

And yeah, that Sir Lord Baltimore album rules!!!

Budgie, Leaf Hound, Atomic Rooster, Fuzzy Duck, Focus, The Master's Apprentices... a lot of fuzzy, sloppy, fun hard rock people don't think much about anymore.

BUDGIE! Got a lot of time for Budgie. Big, dumb, fun. Solid riffery all round, though.

Of the three, definitely Uriah Heep for me.

I agree Sir Lord Baltimore and Budgie need to be on the list. As do Dust, Elf, Captain Beyond, and one of my faves for straight ahead hard rock, Foghat. Probably many more as well.
