oh sorry I thought that u also watched some of them.
well Alberto Sordi was an amazing actor and director;Totò was one of the most important italian actor/comedian.
I noticed that when we did the "best ever movies" tourney there were many italian movies but none by Alberto and Totò.
they are essential movies for those who are exploring italian cinema.
That kind of quality is quite rare to find nowadays (in Italy) _________________ Not Talulah?

In addition to Fellini, Antonioni, Rossellini, Visconti, De Sica, Bertolucci, Pasolini, Lina Wertmuller, spaghetti westerns, giallos, Cinema Paradiso and Life is Beautiful, I've seen Salvatore Giuliano, Il posto and Big Deal on Madonna Street, but haven't really gone deeper than that.

oh wow, you watched quite a few of them, that's a great panorama of italian movies!
Big deal on Madonna Street, original title I Soliti Ignoti (the usual unknown persons)
I love that one, I watched it many, many years ago. In the cast there is also Claudia Cardinale, she was stunning. _________________ Not Talulah?

Yes, stunning is the word! She's in The Leopard and 8 1/2 too, but a shame she didn't get more big starring roles in movies of the type that non-Italians still watch. I looked her up and she's in Fitzcaraldo (German) and the first Pink Panther movie (might have to watch that one again, though it's just ok!)!

oh man I haven't seen it yet, and I know I should
yesterday I had this long eastern lunch with my family and relatives; long means that we started at 1 pm and we finished at 8 pm...typical
I love this moments because I can ask many questions about the 50's and 60's; when they speak about the 60's it seems to be the best decade ever.
anyway we spoke a lot about movies and books and they gave me a few recs:
"La Ciociara" (De Sica) with Sophia Loren. They said Sophia to do a good performance needed a good director and De Sica was one of those.
"I bambini ci guardano" (De Sica) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034493/
and I'm gonna add to this list also "Ladri di Biciclette" (De Sica), I watched it many years ago and I should watch it again.
my watch list is becoming huge...again
They recommended me a recent movie called "La Masseria delle Allodole" (Taviani) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0854672/?r...f_=nv_sr_1
they gave me also the book, apparently is very good. _________________ Not Talulah?

Think The Leopard's a little overrated, but worth seeing, lovely to look at. Cardinale's also in Visconti's previous film, Rocco and His Brothers. I hadn't seen Bicycle Thieves in a very long time before I rewatched it with my girlfriend recently.

Dang, I was just talking to my friend Karl about how The Leopard suuuuccccckkkkksssss. It’s basically a whole movie about us pitying the poor rich bigoted boomer dude, and even then, Bertolucci does more with a ballroom in 5 minutes of Last Tango in Paris than Visconti does in a whole hour. Bertolucci’s Movie also has fucking, which immediately makes it better.

So apparently an expanded miniseries edition of The Hateful Eight is on Netflix. That sounds worth a watch. Guess I'll be re-purchasing Netflix soon.
If anyone in the states is into 4k the 40th Anniversary release of Alien is out and only 14.96 at walmart. I haven't even got a 4k player yet and I already own Alien on bluray but I had to pick it up.

Sorry for not seeing this post sooner. Is that the first 4K title you've bought?
I've got a big Blu-ray collection, so I'm not going to jump into 4K unless Criterion seriously embraces it. I'd also want to see a major studio release a Hitchcock or Citizen Kane in the format. Upgrading my TV before it's on its way out is a luxury I can't afford.
The Hateful Eight miniseries sounds interesting. Apparently they added 25 minutes to the film and significantly reedited the rest. So I'm not in a rush to see it, but will check it out next time I have Netflix.
