Bold prediction: Endgame pulls a mini LOTR 3 at the Oscars as a reward for the whole franchise, winning everything it's nominated for. My guess is 8 categories.

I could see it getting nominated for Best Picture, since Black Panther did. Even though it doesn't have the socio-political dimension of BP (I assume, since I haven't seen it yet), it is a pop culture phenomenon that got a lot of media attention and positive reviews.

No, it was sold out last Saturday. But I'm going ahead and falling into the hype. But again I say it's a bold prediction because I understand how far fetched it sounds. But it's really not all that far fetched after all. Especially with them wanting to honor "popular" films in order to achieve decent ratings.

This is the thread for 2019 film discussion, correct? Not just arbitrary trophies?
Anyways, John Wick 3 is one of a couple of movies I've seen this year, and it was pretty good. It cranked the ridiculousness up to 11. I have no idea where they can go from here.

Haven't been this psyched for a Tarantino movie -- or perhaps movie period -- in a long time. Glad we don't have to wait till Oscar season to see it -- July 26th.

I’m really excited for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as well, but it just feels like one minor detail (the last detail dur hur white dudes) in what might be the best Cannes in recent memory. Almodovar, Bong, Eggers, Beanpole, that Lady of Fire movie from the director this dumb bitch has never heard of. I’ll admit that non-Sundance 2019 has been off to a sorta slow start in terms of monoculture (in no small part because of Moviepass), but it seems like the second half of this year has soooooooo many masterpieces lined up.

Definitely sounding like it's a better Cannes than 2018 or 2017, but 2016 was killer. If Dolan's latest ends up being Mommy-quality, that's just icing on the cake. Not too pumped about Kechiche's Intermezzo, but after a last-minute edit, maybe it'll turn out okay.
And yeah, I think I said somewhere earlier that Beanpole and The Lighthouse should've been in competition. Can't believe you haven't watched Sciamma Charlie, I think you'd love everything she's released. Water Lilies is one of the best French films of the aughts, and I'd say the same about Girlhood for the '10's. Plus, this.
The praise for Pain And Glory, Too Old to Die Young, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Atlantics, A Hidden Life, Portrait of A Lady On Fire, Sorry We Missed You, Fire Will Come, The Wild Goose Lake, and Parasite has lead to a pretty large group of films to anticipate. Latest from Diaz, Dupieux and Bonello too. I'd love to see Bong Joon-Ho, Almodovar or Sciamma walk away with the Palme D'or (and depending on today, hopefully Dolan).
Vague guesses at this point:
Palme D'or: Pain & Glory
Grand Prix: Parasite
Jury Prize: The Wild Goose Lake (or maybe Atlantics)
Director: Celine Sciamma
Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
Actress: Isabelle Huppert (Film's a dud, but I don't think she has a lot of competition... maybe Lea Seydoux? Anne Dorval? Mame Bineta Sane?)
Screenplay: Xavier Dolan & Quentin Tarantino
But all of those are probably wrong and it doesn't matter.
