Yes, a very sad day indeed. Power Windows (https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?a=3233) saved my life. I feel really indebted to Neil Peart (and Rush) and have seen them innumerable times.

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect

Rush, The Garden (from Clockwork Angels)

We have lost so many greats in recent years, but this is the most crushing. Until today, I had never cried at the loss of someone I didn't know personally and intimately.

The world will be a far less interesting place henceforth. I daresay we shall never again see or hear his like behind the kit.... or behind the pen and quill as well. Not only did he play the most wicked percussion ever, he wrote so many fantastic, thoughtful, and thought-provoking lyrics.

This happened way to soon. He deserved to be able to enjoy his retirement.

We will miss you, Professor.

Yeah this sucks to hear. I was obsessed with Rush when I was younger. I obviously still love their music, but I'll never forget the huge chunk of my life of about a year where I just absorbed their earlier albums on a cyclical basis every day, riding the bus to school half asleep, daydreaming about fountains, necromancers, intergalactic battles, and black holes. I was listening to "Nobody's Hero" the other day, and it reminded me how awesome of a lyricist he was, as Fischman mentioned earlier. Very sad. Great drummer. Never met him or saw him personally, but I appreciate his life and work so much.

As a hobbyist drummer, I can certainly say that he's the real deal when it comes to skill on the kit. I can pretend to play some Rush songs, but I lack the precision and confidence that Peart had on the drums.

Neil was my guy. He's most definitely had the single most important impact on my musician and his words, demeanor, and philosophies helped shape how I conduct myself away from the drum kit as well.

For a guy who didn't believe in having "heroes", of course to the point of the now all too famous Limelight line.. something about strangers and friends... I've been in this strange catch 22 the past 48 hours of selfishly acknowledging him as my hero. It goes against a lot of what I learned from him, but I can't help it. The guy changed my fucking life and I'm convinced I may not have kept going on the drums without him.

What an interesting, insightful, bold and somehow at the same time not, human. I'll miss him every time I hear one of his mighty snare cracks.
