OK, this song can't even be contained by the format that has been used so far. I just have to talk about how "Dare To Be Stupid" is probably the epitome of Al as an artist. A song that people have been quoted as "outdevoing DEVO," and so forth. It's one of his best style parodies, and one of his best songs period. It's pure an utter nonsense of the best variety. I implore you to think about the actual meaning of this "stupid" song and use it for your benefit.

That I'm a little girl when we make love line made me laugh and creeped me out at the same time. I hope he did a parody of Little Girls by Oingo Boingo, because Danny Elfman being as weird as he is seems like an easy target.

Speaking of rock artists doing movies and TV, I knew about Mark Mothersbaugh from Rugrats when I was a kid, but I didn't know until adulthood that he was in Devo.

Entertaining parody song to be sure (Like a Surgeon), but this is a case where the video really takes it to the next level. There's so many little satirical and/or silly things tucked into almost every frame... you really have to watch it multiple times to catch them all. I particularly liked the "wheel-o" toy being placed on the instrument table at 1:14. Who among Al's generation didn't spend time fascinated by this ridiculously simple little novelty? The fidget spinner of its day!

I had put this on hold, because, well, I needed to focus on my job, but now that it's summer and there's no more teaching, I'll resume the Alapalooza (which of course is the name of his 8th studio album.

Although the first two tracks "Like A Surgeon" and "Dare To Be Stupid" are classic Al staples, the rest of the album sees a pretty steep drop in quality.

Dare To Be Stupid by "Weird Al" Yankovic

"I Want A New Duck"

From the album Dare To Be Stupid

File Under: Parody of Huey Lewis & The News, "I Want A New Drug

Music Video: no

Best lyric: *duck quacks intensify*

Although this song may be just as stupid as the previous one (which may be the point) it's nowhere near as clever.

Song Rating: D+

Hold up, I had to make a separate post for this.

I was just reading the allmusic review for Weird Al, and I saw that most of his early albums were reviewed by Eugene Chadbourne. If you don't know who he is, he's an avant garde guitarist that played with the likes of John Zorn and such. He's another artist with a sense of humor, so I thought it was interesting that he was the reviewer for Al.

OH MY GOD. I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THIS.

I've been meaning to put in some other Al things in between song reviews, and this is absolutely perfect.
