Recently I have been listening to A Salty Dog by Procol Harum a lot. I tried to listen a few times in my teens, and I recognized there was something special, but it didn't really take for me at the time. Now, I have firmly latched on to this gentle majesty, and I am currently a happy guy. Let's celebrate the beauty of Procol Harum!

Procul Harum is honestly one of those underrated proto-prog bands I grew up with.

Their first three albums should all be ranked higher than they are (which reminds me that I haven’t added them to my charts). Their subtlety belies their craftiness, which I’m sure contributes to them being overlooked. But, once your ear is tuned in, their songs possess a magic.

Their debut is ranked behind The Soft Parade. Come on, guys.

I think the beautiful lyrics are the real icing on the cake for this album in particular.

Procol Harum gets points for bringing us Robin Trower, for sure.
