Perhaps secretly the most influential post punk record? It's directly more cannibalized by the PP revivalists than joy division to my ears. Anyway it's good shit, I think I like the corny carnivalness of Strange Times more but this album has got a beautiful self awareness right out the gate. Really recommend Red Temple Spirits' dancing to restore on Eclipsed Moon if you vibe with this.

For some reason I absolutely could not get into this album. Might need to give it another spin

Don't really listen to it, I prefer JD and Cure.

This has always seemed like THE post punk album to me. As in it sounds like what I think of when I think of post punk; it's got the darkness of Joy Division while having more pop sensibility like Echo & the Bunnymen. It's very good front to back, but I think that somehow works against it, as it's way too long and nearly every song plays around with the same formula. Agreed that Don't Fall is fantastic and likely the highlight, but none of the tracks after that do too much to distinguish themselves from it. One of those albums that would be a personal favorite if it was 35-40 minutes long but at nearly an hour is an album I almost never listen to.

Interesting, I sort of get what you mean babyblue but I feel like this verges on gothic rock too much of the time to really be the definitive post punk vibe. When I think of like THE quintessential post punk sound I get visions of Magazine and The Sound you know? This album is a touch long in the tooth though.

I have a copy of this on my shelf curtesy Jimmy Mr. Green

Still one of my favourites from the 80s in general. True gem of a record.
