Post political lyrics. Funny that listening to Rage Against the Machine earlier this week didn't inspire this, rather Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic from RHCP. Laughing

Hicks don't mix with politics - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Say what I want, do what I can; Death to the message of the Ku Klux Klan - Red Hot Chili Peppers

John Lennon:
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be

Sleeping on the White House Lawn ain't never changed a thing.
'Cause looked at all the washed out hippie dreams

And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I think about this one passage off of Big Science by Laurie Anderson everytime I hear one of my friends get talked over by a dude.

"She said: It looks. Don't you think it looks a lot like rain?
He said: Isn't it. Isn't it just. Isn't it just like a woman?
She said: It's hard. It's just hard. It's just kind of hard to say
He said: Isn't it? Isn't it just. Isn't it just like a woman?
She said: It goes. That's the way it goes. It goes that way
He said: Isn't it? Isn't it just like a woman?
She said: It takes. It takes one. It takes one to
It takes one to know one
He said: Isn't it just like a woman?
She said. She said it. She said it to no. She said it to no one
Isn't it? Isn't it just? Isn't it just like a woman?"

Laurie is so good at using those repetitive motifs to drive the purpose of the song. Reminds me how she approached sort of urban social isolation with New York Social Life. was gonna shitpost with terrible political lyrics but now I'd feel bad putting those adjacent to this lmao

from Mike Ladd's "Feb. 4 ’99 (For All Those Killed by Cops)"

Quote:
Somehow bullet holes in steel doors look like a collection of constellations trapped to catch the wrath of idiots
And we are the size of constellations in the path of wrathful idiots
And all these heroes we will map the sky with come across arcane next to off duty demons in denim

And you would think that Cambridge would finally buckle under its own ego
That the Himalayan stones would melt and somehow drown the right people
That Shona ghosts would rise and fly vengeance
That the very matter from every crossed path would turn resolute and shatter themselves for justice

In shopping malls around the world
Yet somehow the Kings of Leon
Still find time to write songs about girls
