Round 1: Fleet Foxes v. Lori McKenna

I like the Lori album. But I think this FF album is better. Its just a gorgeous, lush, emotional album. FF are incredible and I'm not sure why they are being dissed here. They are excellent and they have their own distinct sound that is easy to spot or hear very quickly if you hear a Fleet Foxes song in isolation. Lori is a badass and this Balladeer album is one of the best of hers I've heard, i'd arbitrarily (obviously) give it a 3.5, but this Fleet Foxes is a 4 or 4.5.

I can clearly see why people prefer Shore. It's a beautiful, layered, atmospheric listen, and a great album. It held up well to a re-listen, and I was sure its 4/5 would get my vote. But when I listened to The Balladeer again, it clicked in a way it didn't on my first listen. Maybe I was in a more sentimental mood, but some of these songs hit me like a truck, and even for those that didn't, the beauty of the songcraft became more apparent. It has rocketed up my chart, gotten an upgrade to 4/5, and edged Fleet Foxes for my vote here.

Lori easily. Never been a fan of Fleet Foxes and this album doesn't change my mind.
