One of the greatest albums ever made. Even though there are major Faust/Can nods, as well as textures and techniques pulled straight from dub, and disco-leaning rhythms, the record still has a really inherent Britishness about it, despite the lack of a British precedent for this sort of thing outside of a few obscure 7” singles.
The dissonant, piercing, glassy guitar work is super visceral, the lyrics and vocals have this haunting sadness to them but also a real degree of vaudevillian camp, and the rhythm section sounds like it should be making dance music but for the fact that the bass and drums never quite sync up as you’d expect.
I first got into this when I was 12 or 13, and unlike most of the things I was heavy into at that age, the allure of this one hasn’t worn thin. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Gosh, I saw this album on sale in Bournemouth many years ago and was so interested in the box it was held in. It was part of a classic albums promotion although still not listented. With physical music waning in power it is a shame there may be a lot less original ways to hold album. _________________ More needs and less greed
