One of the few albums that can bring me to tears. And if not The Decemberists' best album, a close second--for me, the competition is Picaresque. In the end, I'll never be able to divorce this from when I first heard it as a middle schooler, right when it came out. For some reason, my mom bought it on iTunes, and we just had it. So, it crept into my rotation, and it's remained a cornerstone album for me ever since.

This is an amazing album, top to bottom.
Even better when listed to not just as separate tracks, but in the context of an entire album. Pretty much a master class at being able to change the tone of the album while keeping the same general vibe. cool examples of the being The island going into Yankee Bayonet adn When the War Came into Shankill butchers.
really one of my all time favorites. Without looking at my own chart first, I'm gonna guess I have it somewhere in the 10-15 range.

I love this album from start to finish. Excellent musicianship and melodies throughout. Incredible lyrics as well. Meloy's voice is very listenable.
