still unsure on some of the order, this is a tough one

looking at some stuff im missing a bit so i might have to do some snipping

Tallied— thanks Gowi Smile Not sure how, but I've never gotten around to The Secret of NIMH. There's a chance I watched it when I was super young, because I think I have phantom memories of it, but I'm not sure. Should probably get on it before this wraps.

Give me a head's up for changes, not an issue.

No love for Totoro?

It's solid but my ghibli rankings place it in the middle of the pack.

Excellent retrospective/review (with analysis) of (imo) the greatest film of the 80s (and possibly all time). Highly recommended for those wanting to revisit the film for this poll, and perhaps for anyone "on the fence about it" and/or just anyone who might be interested in what those who see it as a masterpiece might see in it and in maybe giving it another shot before the deadline.

(Note: The Final Cut, 142 min, is where it's at)

https://letterboxd.com/eyekanfly/list/e...f-the-80s/

Made a few changes and expanded to 60 films. I think at this point I've exhausted all 80s films among my streaming services that I have an interest in.

As a point of discussion, I re-watched Brazil and still... don't like it very much. I suppose I don't really get why it's become so popular. The production design is great, but otherwise it's just a bit boring. Which I guess is the point? It seems like a film which is loved by other filmmakers (e.g. Rian Johnson was heavily inspired by Brazil for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a fact I find incredibly odd).

On the positive side, I watched Koyaanisqatsi for the first time and found it absolutely breathtaking. I've listened to the Philip Glass soundtrack before but never watched it. I can see how this film has inspired documentarians in the years since. In particular, I think Ai Weiwei took huge inspiration for the cinematography of Human Flow.

Quick update, all good Smile

Human Flow is without question inspired by Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, etc. I think even major productions like Planet Earth were heavily inspired by them. Here's a thousand great shots a minute, let's call it a documentary— and it works. It's actually very freeing as a film medium, from everyone's standpoint.

In other news, I got around to Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and The Killing Fields. Neither will make my list, but I'm glad I watched them. Tom Conti and Ngor put on some great performances.
