All going on at the towers of Dread...

Just been handed a pretty juicy bonus, and thanks to Junior Dread moving out of his old room into the spare I've got a larger room to finally get my collection into some semblance of order. So went and treated myself to a 5x5 Kallax unit to hold all me records (here) and an upgrade of my a-little-bit-old-but-still-decent Marantz PM6005 amp to the PM8006 (here), which packs a hell of a grunt and is currently annoying the wife by pumping out the excellent Rubadub Revolution compy of Striker Lee dancehall nuggets on Pressure Sounds.

Happened to be up in Neil's part of the world (well, almost - Solihull) a couple of days ago for work and picked up More Sugar Minott on Studio One from a shop in an old Manor House on the pedestrianised High Street, then stopped over at Reading on the way back home, popping into Oxfam and grabbing originals of:

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys

Quality Control by Jurassic 5

And then from me local:

Ptah, The El Daoud by Alice Coltrane

New repress, which sounds pretty decent to my ears. Especially through this new amp...

Some vinyl

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan by Bob Dylan

Surrender by The Chemical Brothers

And some shiny silver things

Turns Into Stone by The Stone Roses

Push Barman To Open Old Wounds by Belle And Sebastian

(For lazy purposes, I already own the singles)

Ultra Truth by Daniel Avery

Don't think I'll bother with the new Now Yearbook CD comp out Friday it looks a bit like an exercise in barrel scraping, although the '85 extra compilation will be more than welcome in my house when it makes an appearance..

Picked up some records from the ever lovely Swordfish Records today. A couple of Cerrone bits:

Cerrone 3: Supernature by Cerrone

Africanism by Kongas

Some stuff not on the site:

Mr. Flute by Art Webb

(Actually, I got Love Eyes, the record that came after Mr. Flute, which isn't on the database. Thankfully, the album art acts as a sequel, with Art Webb in his Mr. Flute faun mode serenading a lady on park bench. Naturally.)

Nazia (Hassan)'s Disco Deewane.

And some singles - namely Sylvester's 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'/'Stars' (late '80s, cheap rerelease), Malaika's 'Gotta Know (Your Name)', and Cam'ron's 'Hey Ma'.

Wicked haul.

That cover reminds me strikingly of Joanna Newsom’s Divers.
