Ultra Truth by Daniel Avery
Thanks for the heads up on this! I've not been paying attention to any new releases for a few months, so I'm glad to have listened to this. Nice to hear an artist that I enjoy going on a bit of a different path, and having some success doing so.
Surprised how varied this is. Got some drum n bass, some trip hop, ambient, etc. I'm really digging that aspect of it, and there are some songs I'll definitely be returning to like "Wall Of Sleep" which hit me with that Donkey Kong inspiration (sample?) right away. Great listen.

The Top by The Cure
An interesting and pleasant listen that fills a gap in my listening. The Top is a more upbeat and catchy turn for The Cure after the oppressive slog that is Pornography. And sacrilegiously, I think I actually enjoy it more. It feels a bit like on this record they put style over substance, but I definitely enjoy the style. However, it lacks a truly iconic song. Starting it at a light 3.5/5.
Here's an underrated album. Still on zero charts, because I haven't made my 1968 chart yet.

Music To Eat by Hampton Grease Band
This is a really interesting album. It gets a lot of comparisons to Beefheart and Zappa due to its experimental, virtuosic, all-over-the-place display of musicianship. It's also a lot jammier than those artists, with extended, sometimes aimless jams sprinkled throughout the double album's extensive runtime. Lyrically, it's off-the-wall and unpretentious, with band members admitting there is no deeper meaning to the weirdness. So as you might expect, their impressive instrumental chops are really what make this album worth listening to. Hampton Grease Band can cook, especially on the opener and clear highlight Halifax. Unfortunately, there's a bit too much filler here to my ears, but this is still good and could be very good as a single album. 3/5.
Let's go with a 2022 hip-hop album:

You Could Be Born Again by The Free Design
I had listened to this awhile ago, and I spun it again last week. It's on par with the other Free Design records that I've heard. they're certainly the archetype for what a good 'sunshine pop' album should be. Great music to just listen to and feel good.
Bay, I can't for the life of me remember if I had you listen to this or not. If you did, then I'll give you another one.

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout
This is indeed my first time listening, and it's been a very nice time. The production is always good and sometimes transcendent. The songwriting is always solid and sometimes strong. The vocals are quite nice. Steve McQueen is a fun listen from start to finish, and everything comes together on a few great songs, such as Appetite and When Love Breaks Down. I'm not feeling all-time classic vibes on this first listen, but it definitely seems like it could be a grower, and I look forward to listening again. 3.5/5.
Here's a recent discovery that really impressed me:

We should probably decide between this thread and https://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/v...;start=20. Doesn't make sense to have both active imo, it's the same game.
Edit: should also say that I prefer this version of the game. Nothing against Gowi It's just a better concept because this cannot happen.
Quote: | Also a slight problem with this game is the timing. If 2 people listen to the same album and review it in roughly the same time, what happens then?

I think above you is simpler (albeit less successful) and less convoluted. Lot of people over the last 5+ years have used this thread wrong or been too confused how it functions (I have no interest reading back several pages to see what my last assigned album was and so forth). I have no problem with either thread being around, but I do not intend to give up on the one I made going forward. Tournaments been dominating this subforum too long.
