Although Foxtrot has remained my favorite and most returned to out of the Genesis catalog, Selling England was my first love.
Whereas Close to the Edge sounds like it was brought to us from outer space and In the Court of the Crimson King feels like a generations old royal English document, Selling England separates itself from other all-time prog classics by feeling like a more present day (especially of the time of release) England. It’s much more earthbound and homegrown while still featuring all the whimsy, thoughtful arrangements, and technical wizardry you might expect from an acclaimed prog record.
Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, and the Cinema Show are highlights of the entire early era of prog. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

If ever there was an album that eptomized the best in prog rock, I nominate this. A genere knowing for pretension, this at least as the cred of being worthy without being embarrasing .
From the opening moments of Dancing with the moonlit knight your enchanted to an England of magic realism.
A quite essential english record .
