My parents had this album on cassette when I was a child - I didn't realize how much it had ingrained into my brain until I rediscovered it in college. These tracks fill me with nostalgia - hence, my opinion on the album is probably biased. It has catchy hooks throughout, and shows Simon at his best with quirky lyrics. Further, I know he wasn't the first, but this is one of the better examples of cross-cultural collaboration, and it works well here. Maybe he gets more credit because of the climate of Aparthied at the time. Either way - I think I gave this 8.5/10.

Best track - Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes

This album was big for me. Some of his most interesting writing, with very rhythmic lyrics. "The Boy In The Bubble" was a big influence on some of my own songs. And before Graceland, there wasn't a lot of access to world music. It was there, but not a lot knew about it. Graceland had a big hand in making music from other places heard.
