This is pretty cool, and it has a soft spot in my heart die to the fact that Trent Reznor was my first musical idol when I was 11-13. I mean I had posters and box sets and I tried to dress like him and song like him and act like him. He was my first musical god, just before Kirk Hammett, Bob Dylan, etc.

As for this album however, it is a wildly uneven affair. It's electronic sound is so cheap sounding at times to me. Especially on "Ring Finger". But honestly, despite my recollected short comings (and I haven't given this a good relisten in years) I also see that there are some real generation-defining classics here that beautifully melded dark/goth elements with industrial with hard rock/metal. It's astounding how well "Head Like A Hole" has aged. That song can still get me pretty amped. Also "Terrible Lie" and "Sin" and some others are excellent.

In short I just realized its high time I got back into NIN starting from relistening to this.

One of the first indie-label rock albums to sell over one million copies. I really don't listen to industrial music, but what Trent Reznor does makes me want to listen. A great debut album, for sure.

Sounds dated now. The Fragile is his best.

I mostly agree with this. Although I'd rank em ...

Broken>The Fragile>Pretty Hate Machine>The Downward Spiral>>>With Teeth .... And I haven't heard anything else. Lost interest in new releases years ago. And although "Broken" is but a pretty average lengthens EP, it's still fabulous and I love it the mostest.
