Okay well taken at face value one of them has made one somewhat decent pop album and the other has made two of the most honest and beautiful albums of all time as well as 3 others that I really enjoy......

Kiss is nice enough. But then we have Either/Or and Elliott Smith up against it, which are beautifully honest indie folk albums with tinges of sadcore. And I love indie folk with tinges of sadcore. And honesty. Yeah, as much as I think Kiss is 'nice enough', 'nice enough' is not enough to beat Nick Drake Vol 2.

Even labeling Elliott as "Nick Drake Vol 2" belittles him. He is so much more than that. So much more than an overplayed tween artist. Carly Rae Jepsen is OK, but you need to have a lot of guts to be compared to a great like Smith.

Carly Rae Jepsen

I like Elliott Smith quite a bit, but not only is Kiss good, but "Call Me Maybe" is one of the greatest singles of the past decade.

Elliott Smith's music is beautiful.

However, I voted Jepsen. Smith is one of my favorites, but Carly represents something in music that needs to be more appreciated. From Hanson to Take That to Carly Rae to New Edition, teen pop has been one of the most fun and refreshing genres out there. That's not to say it's something as genius as the normal stuff I tend to listen to, but it gets tedious listening to serious and beautiful music all the time. There needs to be some fun out there (that's not to say I don't have fun or energetic music to listen to outside of teen pop) and this kind of pop is what defines a fun time.
