Went 7 pages back and didn't see a topic.

Saw MGMT last night at the waterfront in Burlington - kind of the opener for the annual Maritime Festival, I guess.

They've got a couple of good songs, but for the most part I find them boring and there's even a song that just grates on my nerves for the housefly-buzz sounding synth/amplifier settings they have with it.

Opening act Violens was better - not breaking any ground here, very derivative (one song sounded very much like an 80s U2 song complete with The Edge's guitar sound, and there were shades of Smiths and Violent Femmes as well amongst others I'm not familiar with I'm sure - though the Femmes were the only band they listed amongst their influences on their Facebook page). They release their first album next month so I may be looking for it at some point.

Waterfront Park is actually a pretty good concert venue, and both bands seemed impressed by the sunset over the lake (Lake Champlain, incidentally, with New York's Adirondack Mountains in the background). Can't imagine people living in the $800k condos nearby were all that impressed with the noise levels, though Laughing

I love watching live music. I recently saw Paco de Lucia at the Teatro La Axerquia in Córdoba (outdoor venue full to 4,500 capacity). Paco de Lucia is probably the best flemenco guitarist on the planet and certainly the most influential. It's great when a band/artist can actually play their instruments properly!

Someone camcorded a bit of the concert (hence a bit jerky). The dancer 'Farruco' was incredible (from about 3:00 in this clip):

This goes back to 2008, Big Day Out on the Gold Coast.

Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Hilltop Hoods, LCD Soundsystem ,Dizzee Rascal, Battles were all the headliners and a couple of lesser lights

Back then I didnt like Bjork or Arcade Fire so almost completely ignored them. And I kind of regret this life choice!

Last concert was a few weeks ago. Saw the New Pornographers at the Vogue Theatre (capacity 1200). Great atmosphere, good music and lots of fun. Opening acts were Imaad Wasif and The Dodos. Nothing to say about Wasif. The Dodos were much more raw and rocking live than on their albums. Three guys with two of them playing percussion with conviction. The New Pornographers were great and Neko Case was in the lineup and brilliant. AC Newman was very present as well. Dan Bejar pulled a couple of disappearing acts and had a perma-beer in his hand (hmmm?). Unbelievable amount of talent in that band including Kathryn Calder and the other musicians.

it's been awhile. A Cali Punk Invasion show with The Fear and Agent Orange, among others; not that great.

coming up I'll see the Pixies, then two weeks later I'll see LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, the Strokes, MIA, the Eagles, the National and some others at ACL

Last one I saw was Walter Trout at the House of Blues in Chicago. He rocked the crowded place. Not sure what capacity they have, but I'd guess somewhere around 400.

Before that, Jamey Johnson and Randy Houser at the River Center in Davenport. Randy had only released one album, but he put on a good show and played his (at that time) yet unreleased single Whistlin' Dixie. When Jamey came on I only managed to stay five or six songs before he'd bored me to death. I like his albums, but for some reason he only plays the really slow songs on stage while looking like the whole world is in a big conspiracy against him. Quite the bore. Attendance was only a couple hundred, and the venue was not a very good one.

Arcade Fire is touring western Canada and western USA in late September and early October. General admission floors are already on sale for many venues at the band's website. Reserved seating is going on sale for some shows the next few days through Ticketmaster.

MGMT w/opening act Violens on the Burlington, Vermont waterfront as part of the annual Maritime Festival August 12.

Not a big MGMT fan, the show wasn't wildly great. Liked Violens though - good sound showing definite influences of U2 and The Smiths (though they don't list them as influences, instead citing Violent Femmes - which I did hear a shade of at one point, and other lesser known acts).

A couple MGMT songs are okay, but some are flat out annoying because of their use of the buzzing fly type klaxon sounds from their samplers/synths/amps.

Also felt somewhat old - granted, there were a couple grannies rocking out to the music (old hippies I'm guessing) but mostly the crowd averaged about 17 years of age. But the waterfront is a nice venue - coast guard station behind and the ECHO Center and Burlington Boathouse nearby...Spirit of Ethan Allen lake cruiser coming into port...or maybe it was the Burlington-Port Kent, NY ferry, who knows. It was dark. Laughing

I'm sure it was better than home-grown act Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, though, who were playing one of the following nights.
