This used to be my favourite Talk Talk album for ages, until I really got into Laughing Stock. I still think it's better than Spirit of Eden. It's obviously far more direct and orthodox than either of those two albums, but it manages to meld that over-the-top '80s pop bombast with the organic, flowing feel they later became known for. It's just glorious, despite its title I've always found this album sounds best on a late-summer evening, preferably with a nice Rioja and some hashish. Despite the fact that it's quite grand and majestic, it still feels really sincere and humble. A gem.

Definitely, or that last unexpected warm sunny day in October.

For all its pumping '80s drums and a hook so catchy you already know it by the second time around and that guitar noodling and the fact that it sounds almost consciously anthemic to a degree, this is still such an elegant, understated pop song. It's like the fucking anti-Joshua Tree.

Just mad dope from start to finish. It's still my fave by them, although I haven't listened to this band in quite a while. I mean, deep spiritual shit is nice, catchy pop is nice, but when the catchy pop is also deep and spiritual, it's quite unbeatable, really.

This is the album that finally shattered the barriers I had up against the sound of '80s pop. As Skinny said, it has that synthetic production style you expect from the pop of that era, yet the final product is anything but. I love it not just for what it is, but also for what it opened my mind up to.

My buddys cousin left a garbage bag full of old cassettes at our place. Amongst a bunch of Styx tape and feel good audiobooks was this somehow. Diamond in the rough if you will

Oh and duh this album is great and I love it

Better than Spirit of Eden, not as good Laughing Stock. I love how it strikes the perfect balance between their dancy, synth pop tunes of the early 80s and their post-rock direction - showing hints of some fun experimental moments. Would be in my top 100 for sure if I didn't have an artist limit.

Great album, #21 in my overall actually. Fact: When I was listening to this album back in the 80's, "friends" were making fun of me... Now I make fun of them... Razz

Very Happy

This album is great. To me, it's a toss up for the second best Talk Talk album.
