Welcome to the FIRST of what will hopefully be multiple polls for choosing the (sub)genre which we will then delve into and explore as a group. As a group, we have talked extensively about our vision and goals for these future genre threads both here ...

GenreExtravaganza

and here ...

RecommendationForums

But this is still a fairly fluid concept which will evolve naturally as we undergo the process.

As of now, our goal is to...

1) Provide a Historical Overview of the genre (e.g how it came about, what shaped it, etc.)
2) Recommend the essentials/required listening in any given genre
3) serve as a treasure trove of recs
4) Encourage some great conversations about the bands and the albums in any given genre.

As Happymeal has discussed, after a genre has been selected, a small team of users will do some background research on that genre and then get the thread jumpstarted with their overview of said genre along with its essential listening. Afterwards, everyone else is free to jump in with their own opinions, questions, further recommendations, etc. The whole point is to foster ongoing constructive discussion on the amazing bands and albums in that genre.

ps. Thanks, CubaZed!!!

A bit sad that there is no country, but well, I haven't participated, so I can't really complain. Not that I think the idea is bad or anything, I just don't have the knowledge to talk about genres nor do I have the time to search about them.

Am I till allowed to vote though, though? If yes, I'll click on punk 'cause I'm boring. If not, well, OK.

I voted for country blues because Mercury's all ready to take us to school. Plus, it seems like the perfect place to start!

Btw, there will be oppurtunities to add more genres! In fact, you can post in the original thread right now if you want, it'll be added to the nominees and then we'll get another vote in progress. We'll take the top 5 voted genres and do a thread for each one over the course of 1 - 2 month(s). How does that sound to everyone?

Also, if it takes longer, then that's fine! The main idea is to get quality threads for all the people searching for something! Also, I'd like to thank Repoman for following through with my request to create this thread!

Black metal for sure. One of the most underrepresented genres on this site.

Post-rock and Ambient would be the ones I would work best in. Only one of those is listed here so I guess that is the only one I can help. Laughing

Dub, Punk and Shoegaze would all confuse me while something like 'Emo' probably means all those intelligent and obscure bands from 80s/90s rather than the ones which made "emo" big in 2005/2006.

Also there is a good reason Black Metal is "underrepresented". It's not pleasant to listen to for one.
