We are ready to begin the Tournament for the Best Album of 1974. Nominations were selected by you, the Best Ever Albums cats, and we are ready to get started.

The bracket is at http://challonge.com/bea1974.

For Round One (and only for round one) we will try something different. To avoid the frustration of having two greats and having to eliminate one, or two crap albums having to promote one, we are going to try something new. For each paring in Round One you will see four choices:

Album A
Album B
Liked Both
Didn't Like Either.

If you liked both, but can't pick which one you liked better, then you select Liked Both. Both albums might advance!

If you didn't like either, and don't want to see either of them advance, select "Didn't Like Either".

Here's the boring details of how this works.

If "didn't like either" wins in a pairing, it will be replaced by the highest vote getter among those that lost the pairing. By vote getter, I mean votes for the losing album + liked both votes.

"Like both" cannot win, it can only add votes to the losing album for possible promotion in place of a "didn't like either".

If more than half of the pairings end with "didn't like either" winning, then the second round will consist of the top 32 vote-getters.

Everyone ready? Here we go!

This system is way too confusing, but I'll play along anyways. Wink Thanks List, I'm excited for this. Smile

I don't think it's too confusing.

It makes sense, and it hasn't been done before here. Give it a shot, and if it fails we just won't do it again.

Interested to see how this one will fair out Smile

Matches will be posted on Sunday or Monday and Thursday, depending on when I have time to set them up. I will usually declare a winner as I start the next round, but I reserve the right to keep a match going to prevent a tie.

I never really answered this question. Sorry. Matches will close at noon (Eastern US time) on Mondays and Thursdays. Well, as close to noon as I can get to them.

Quick suggestion. I'd love to know which BEA users are champion these albums like we do in other tourneys.

I'd rather not, I'd like to keep this tournament is about the albums, not who nominated them. However, I can be flexible.

The first four pairs were nominated by:

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (BEA)
Old Train (Saoirse)

You (Squishypuff Dave)
Elis & Tom (brun027)

The Heart of Saturday Night (BEA)
Elektronik Turkeler (Happymeal)

Country Life (Harkan)
Graham Central Station (noWaxJim)

I'll add the nominators to the main page on the current and future matches.

Thanks Listmeister. I understand your reasoning. I'd definitely hope the association wouldn't sway voting. Unless of course it's one of my picks, and then everyone should love and vote for it.
