What are the qualifications for the dates concerning a classical album? I ask because the original 1952 recording of Furtwangler's Tristan und Isolde is listed as 1952 here, but many online sources say the orignal release date was in 1953.

In fact, it's catalog number is stated on many sources as: LP: HMV ALP 1030-5 (6 LPs) (1953). So is there something different? Or should I just change the year to 1953? I'm just trying to be careful.

Could that particular instance be attributed to human error?

You got me. I got a message from an unknown source that the whole website will blow up if BES does not find the correct year.

Any idea how much time we have to solve this issue before the explosion? I have weekends off and would be willing to participate in the quest for answers, but this is a time-sensitive issue.

It triggers once Kidamnesiac creates a new account.

But in seriousness, I do believe this is an issue.

I believe we go by release date. Albums often take years to record, so I don't see why the date it was recorded matters.

It bugs me when years are wrong, whether on RYM or BEA. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

I believe it'd be release date, similar to live albums, i.e. if a live album was recorded on a tour in 1992 and released in 1993, it's a 1993 album. Classical albums are similar.

Well, Rolling Eyes, you are welcome to fix it.

Or I can...but I can't get around to it 'til this weekend. I haven't got the time to waste on such pragmatic things.

BEA uses the original release date and not the date of recording. If it's wrong, please just correct it.
