The games forum is pretty packed at the moment so I figured it made sense to do these here (if any mod has an issue by all means move us to the games forum).

For those who don't know the BEAMAs are our annual awards celebrating the music of the year before - imagine the grammys but with you know...people who have actually listened to music voting.

So it's time for first round voting and that means nominating the albums and songs you want to see nominated for the second round of voting. There are 2 surveys to fill out so that you don't have to overload yourself by doing iut all at once (though if you feel like it by all means...) because it is a lot. Each survey gives the instructions for that survey but the gist is that most categories have a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 contenders you can nominate (with the exception of Best Song and Best Album which have a minimum of 10 and maximum of 50). The preferred format of text entry is "Album/Song Title - Artist Name" it makes it much easier for counting if you can stick to this.

The first survey consists of the genre categories. It can sometimes be hard to decide what genre an album or song is (hey we hate using terms like 'Electronic' and 'Alternative' but what can you do?) but it's up to your judgement - use wikipedia or RYM if you like. You can ask in this thread what people think an album/song falls under since we will be considering an album/song in the genre it gets most votes under.

The second survey is the so called 'bigger' awards and follow much the same rules.

The categories for the first survey are:

Best Indie/Alternative Album
Best Indie/Alternative Song
Best Pop Album
Best Pop Song
Best Electronic Album
Best Electronic Song
Best Hip-Hop Album
Best Hip-Hop Song
Best Country/Folk Album
Best Country/Folk Song
Best Blues/Jazz Album
Best Blues/Jazz Song
Best Metal Album
Best Metal Song
Best RnB Album
Best RnB Song
Best Rock Album
Best Rock Song
Best Avant-Garde Album
Best Avant-Garde Song
Best Instrumental Album
Best Instrumental Song
Best Album Not In English
Best Song Not In English
Best Solo Male Album
Best Solo Male Song
Best Solo Female Album
Best Solo Female Song

The categories from the second survey are:
Best Debut Album Of The Year
Best EP Of The Year
Best BEA User Created Album Of The Year
Best BEA User Created Song Of The Year
Most Overrated Album Of The Year
Most Underrated Album Of The Year
Biggest Letdown Of The Year
Biggest Surprise Of The Year
Worst Album Of The Year
Worst Song Of The Year
Best Music Video Of The Year
Best Album Art Of The Year
Best Song Of The Year
Best Album Of The Year

Just a reminder that you can skip whatever categories you want because if you only vote for one album or song in a category we won't count it anyway.

PLEASE use this thread to promote those songs, albums, videos that you think people should know about before voting because a lot of the time people just don't know.

First Round Voting closes on the 4th of February. So you got 2 weeks.

As always any questions thoughts, post em. Thanks and enjoy Mr. Green

Yo Jhereko, just a question if you will: by 'pop', do you mean Top 40 material? Or anything dominated by melodies (say, Mac DeMarco, Ariel Pink etc)?

To give you an idea Norman here are the pop album nominees from years past:

2011
4 - Beyoncé
21 - Adele
Born This Way - Lady Gaga Neutral
Torches - Foster The People Sick
Vows - Kimbra

2012
Born To Die - Lana Del Rey
Channel Orange - Frank Ocean
Kiss - Carly Rae Jepsen
Roman Reloaded - Nicki Minaj
Visions - Grimes

2013
Beyoncé - Beyoncé
The Bones of What You Believe - CHVRCHES
Night Time, My Time - Sky Ferreira
Paramore - Paramore
Pure Heroine - Lorde

So it does tend to be heavily geared towards chart pop, yes, but there are others there (though with RnB album a thing it's less likely to happen) like Sky Ferriera.

I'd say MacDeMarco and Ariel Pink would both go under Indie but like many things they could come under pop technically if the definition was pop structured songs with catchy riffs which it essentially is.

Not sure if that was helpful or more confusing..

I have unashamedly done so. Indie/alt + folk, metal+rock, indie/alt + electronic, etc.

If you really wanted to, sure. It's up to you to delineate where you think an album should go. I know trying to pick a genre can be tricky (I put everything in my media library in the 'other' genre) but the only alternative is to do genre eligibility lists but I'm sure everyone can imagine how long that would take to do for every album in a year. As I said feel free to bring any specific cases you can;t make your mind up on to this thread.
