I loved it at the time, but I was also 18 and from a small town with no record stores. I bet if I listened to it again, I'd probably cringe. I remember driving around with friends, blasting the fuck out of this album and EVERYONE knew all the words. Still, it's probably not half as good as I remember it being, based on Green Day's overall track record.

This is the first album I ever bought. I revisited this recently, and I think it holds up, but not for the reasons I remember loving it. In fact, I actually appreciate the hell out of how this is put together. There isn't another pop/punk record produced this meticulously with all kinds of neat details. I think that, since this is from the perspective of the teenager, I can excuse all of the awkward lyrics, and I think that the songs are, generally speaking, pretty well-written, even though they use well-worn progressions and ideas.

Track picks
2. Jesus Of Suburbia
3. Holiday
10. Letterbomb
11. Wake Me Up When September Ends
13. Whatsername
