The Pixies' main appeal, to me, is their psychotic energy and abstract, haunting lyrics.
They're definitely not for everyone, I'll admit that much.

the Pixies are a band I would be glad to like but aside from Where Is My Mand, Wave of Mutilation and Gigantic I find it impossible to listen to them. Hope that changes in the future.

One step to understanding the Pixies' appeal might be to acknowledge that "ugly", in this context, isn't an insult. The Pixies can make some extremely ugly music. That's rather the point.
