Now I reckon Top Trumps wasn't a phenomenon strictly limited to us British kids, and I'm sure the concept has crossed the world, but what if someone were to say make a BEA deck... how would it look?

For those who haven't got the faintest clue what I'm on about, see below...

Premise is that each player gets a number of cards dealt out equally from the full deck, chooses a category (say, Killing Power from the above list) and whoever has the highest wins all the cards of lower value in the chosen category from other players for their hand. The winner is whoever has claimed the cards of all the other players (you have to take the first card from your deck, until you get to your final 3 where you can choose whichever card in your remaining hand you feel stands the best chance of winning).

Imagine having a Skinny card (Obscure Musical Knowledge Rating - 100; Hipster Rating - 33; Twee Factor - 5) going up against a Suedeswede (Twee Factor - 90; Tendency Towards Mainstream - 45; Hipster Rating - 60). Fuck the BEUT, this is like the ultimate battle. In card form.

Anyway, what would the categories look like, and who out of us BEA-types would be the ultimate Top Trump? Suggestions please (and if anyone wants to make this happen it would be a blast).

i'll be home with my desktop that has Photoshop on it starting on Thursday, so if someone can find me a transparent template (I've begun looking myself, and this is apparently popular enough that tons of readymade templates are available, but they all look a bit shit compared to the OP), I'm more than willing to spend part of my three weeks of stuffing my face with cheesy snacks, watching TV, and listening to music in the dark making some custom Top Trumps

as far as categories, there have to be four overall, yeah? so what should they be? i like the ones in the OP and will brainstorm a bit and get back with my own ideas for categories

Cheers for the support fella - love the enthusiasm.

As for categories, doesn't have to be 4, 5 would be equally fine (and perhaps provide for a tad more variety). Might even think about opening a poll up when enough suggestions come through and put it to the vote.

Currently I'm thinking...

- obscure musical knowledge rating
- twee/cuteness factor
- hipster level
- tendency to twattishness
- recommendation credentials

Although I'm sure others can come up with better/spins on the above. Bring on the bollocks.

Brilliant. The closest thing to this that I remember having in the US is Magic The Gathering, but this looks more badass.

for categories, maybe a variation of what you've already brought to the table like
Esoteric Rating
Poptimism Factor
Groovallegiance (the appreciation of all that is funky, groovy)
Jazzmastery

or the Jman approach
Diversity
Chart Size

I'd love to see Craola illustrate the members

I quite like the genre-specific approach, as it goes. Although I would be loathed to lose 'tendency towards twattishness'...

Better still give each member a set number of points (say, 350 across the 5 categories) to distribute themselves so as no-one else decides if your Afro-funk factor is superior to your Dadrockability.

Question therefore is:

- generic categories (such as plug.dj potential), or
- genre-specific

Over to you. Make 'em BEAutiful.

i feel like obscurity and twattiness just = poeness to most posters even though i like all three categories. and ftr i much prefer generals instead of genre-specific ones.

i'd maybe suggest
Compulsiveness (how meticulously they document their listening, the expansiveness of their charts, their anal retentiveness about mod data)
Likelihood to Shitpost
Commentary (how much they actually explain their recommendations or what they're listening to vs. how often they just post messages that exclusively consist of a BEA album link or ten)

What's meant by "twattiness"? Is that just like being a douche who thinks he's the end all in knowledge in something and puts down other people's taste? I love it!

Anyway, this is a fun idea. I think in the number 1 boringest regular of all time, so please don't forget me despite this factoid.

Also fuck Poe as a genre. Maybe that's why its such a good category, considering as I don't like it so much. Maybe that means I am the Poe.

Edit: sorry for the incoherent nonsense. I haven't had coffee yet today and I am out of it.
