Interesting because I would say that about the Smiths!!! I mean I like some of their stuff, but so far it hasn't grabbed me in- might be it didn't age as well as R.E.M. and I was born in 84, so I remember it, but it more a memory than first hand experience.

The Smiths without a doubt, but then again they're probably my favourite band of all time! I love REM as well, but they should have split up about 15 years earlier. Two great bands. _________________ No-one writes them like they used to, so it may as well be me.

I remember my older siblings listening to it as a I got older, whereas with R.E.M. I was cognizant of their music as it came out, and then could attach myself to things that came out before- couldn't do that with the Smiths. Generation Gap is probably a better way to explain it.
