This album is blows most albums out of the water, and it's not even their best one. Though, a lot of you should know that by now.

It's okay. Great songs. Hate the thin, insubstantial production.

i've heard that Loaded was supposed to be a parody of pop music at the time or something? at any rate, like the one preceding it, kind of a huge slump in quality after the Cale era. Reed had primary songwriting credits on everything and ended up coming back to more out-there styles of music throughout his career, but it seems like he just went out of his way to be commercial on those two, and they sound much more dated and mediocre as a result.

I really don't see how The Velvet Underground is all that commercial sounding. Sure it lacks some of the grit of White Light/White Heat and Cale's more avant playing but those were hardly polished pop songs.

Loaded was definitely more intentionally poppy, but also some of Reed's best songwriting. New Age and I Found A Reason are particularly great songs that are maybe more overshadowed by the big first 3 songs on the album.

They definitely lost some of their edge by the time they recorded Loaded but I'd still say it's one of the best albums of its time.

At the moment I think this is my favorite Velvet record. Is it perfect? no. But on first listen, I enjoyed it more than I did Velvet Underground & Nico. Really never liked the Nico parts.

Really cool album cover too.

I really like this album. But the first three are on a whole other level & all three could take turns at the very tippitey top of my overall.

That would make much sense!
And opens up possibilities to appreciate it a little more, for me.

hey man, don't knock the third album. one of the best albums that really explores the "indie pop" sound as we know it today.
