Music- is it overrated? is it not overrated? I think it is. overrated, that is. Everyone spends way to much time, money listening and talking about music and it isnt even that good. like, its fine, but itss no live theatrical experience. people should spend less time listening to music and more time enjoying real art, like professional wrestling, or historical fiction. anyway, thants my two cents. what are your thoughts on music/music related things?

I think there is a grain of truth to the OP's comments. Too often we consume music in a purely sensory fashion, and we don't try to get any cultural merit out of it. In those instances, we really do treat it as entertainment instead of art, just like so many neckbeards do with video games.
That being said, that's our fault, not music's. We could call a lot of it a "sham" in that it does such a great job of duping us, but I think that it's really easy to overcome if you give it a chance. In fact, any artistic medium can become culturally substantial if we treat it with enough respect and gravitas (pro wrestling is an amazing example of this, since it's basically postmodernism incarnate).
But one of my favorite things about music is that, in terms of the "bad stuff" that's unhealthy for our society, music culture as a whole doesn't have that much. Surely we struggle with misogyny and homophobia in hip hop a good bit, and maybe you'd argue that we all use a few too many drugs, but we all are so optimistic and accepting as music fans (at least on BEA) that I think a lot of music's power shines through that alone.
