Loving this idea so I just had to throw something together and see where it takes me, cheers for this lads, in particular Satie for getting the ball rolling and albummaster for his top class work as always!

Day 1:
#1:
Anyways, down to business, I've a bit of free time lately so I've been hitting up a lot of albums (both old and new), things may slow down from tomorrow (8 straight days of geology), but I'll try post here every so often and keep things ticking over. Not gonna start with anything too substantial, just a few albums that have dominated my listening in the past few weeks or so. Beginning with...

East Of The River Nile by Augustus Pablo
If any genre in particular has been dominating my recent listening it's reggae, dub et al, and East Of The River Nile in particular is fast becoming a favourite of mine and one of the best instrumental albums I've heard. Such trippy, hazy summer-styled music normally doesn't belong in November but something about this year has me strolling around the city to this whilst doing some early Christmas shopping. Plus there's geology on the album cover which is always a plus, right?

#2:

Follow The Leader by Eric B. & Rakim
This has been belting out through my headphones a lot, it's really really fucking good, I love pretty much everything about Eric B. & Rakim. I'm not overly well listened in hip hop, especially compared to some of you guys, but maybe it's because when I get in the mood for some I instantly turn towards stuff like this. I feel like Follow The Leader is more than worthy of a place on my overall chart, it's one of the albums that makes me consider scrapping the '1 album per artist' rule, because this and Paid In Full both deserve to be on there.

#3:

Visions Of The Country by Robbie Basho
An album that has been truly melting my mind and heart over the past few weeks, incredible stuff in a style that reminds of John Fahey. I'm still just soaking up how good I find this.

Link

One More Note:
I've also been binging on all things James Bond lately, being like the first film series I properly watched with my dad when I was younger and something that I love to bits, right down to the incredibly cheesy Roger Moore films (A View To A Kill on VCR remains one of my most prized possessions). Redirecting my point back to music, I've naturally had a lot of the theme songs flowing through my head while at work, here's my current favourite...

Link

Guess that's all for now, feel free to drop some recs my way or call out my questionable taste in James Bond theme songs or whatever...

Pat

East of the River Nile is basically the apex of all Jamaican music as far as my limited understanding is concerned. Nice going so far. Gotta give that Basho another listen. Faqing loved it the first time around and not entirely sure why I've not revisited it.

Cheers! It's most certainly climbing up there quickly for me alongside the likes of War Ina Babylon and Heart Of The Congos, but it's an area I'm quite vague on so I'm hoping there's still some even better stuff out there (For anyone, recs of stuff like Joe Gibbs, I-Roy, Sister Nancy, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Scientist and so on would be top class...)

As for Basho, he's someone I'm quite new to, so I've heard none of his other work (Again, recs would be top class guys) but I've had that album on everyday for a week now and it gets better and better (Has me revisiting Fahey's stuff also). I'm hooked.

Heh, apologies about that, I'm a relatively slow typer and the first post took me 20 minutes or so, I saw your title as soon as I submitted, currently trying to think of something witty to replace mine with...

I really like (and imagine you would like) these:

Africa Must Be Free By 1983 by Hugh Mundell
(which just so happens to be produced by Augustus Pablo and has a lovely accompanying dub LP)

African Anthem by Mikey Dread

I'm quite a big fan of that Hugh Mundell album, never heard the Mikey Dread album before, though I've briefly heard some of his stuff on that Lee 'Scratch' Party Arkology comp (Which is excellent I might add). I'll give it a few listens and stick up some thoughts on it in a few days, cheers!

And I'm still trying to come up with that witty title...

Well now, seeing as it's you and I'm currently listening to nowt but JA LPs whilst lying next to a pool in Lanzarote it would be remiss of me not to throw a couple your way, both of which will be making it onto mi reggay chart an' ting once I get back to Blighty:

Lady Ann - Informer

Joe Gibbs production, ET engineering, slightly harder dancehall vibes but close to Nancy's league (which is saying something). Title track takes same riddim used by Johnny Osbourne for 'Murderer', killer track).

Nigger Kojak & Liza - Showcase

More Gibbs, this time the dancehall version of Bob and Marcia. Great LP, admittedly missing their finest cut (Fist To Fist Rub-A-Dub) but well worth a listen anyways. One love.

Oh, and if you like that Hugh Mundell LP you need to check this out along with its dub version (Eastman Dub), another Pablo production:

Let's Get Started by Tetrack

And speaking of Pablo, should really throw this personalised rec in just for you Smile

Cheers Jim, hope Lanzarote is treating you well! Just in the door at home but I'm thoroughly looking forward to starting through these recs later, plus that Bongo Pat track is pretty great, I've been loving all things reggae and dub lately, speaking of which...

Day 2:
#4:
Stole this off of Jim's BEAutiful chart a few days back (After being led there by the aforementioned Robbie Basho album) and gave a good few listens on the way to, from and during labwork.

Showcase by Junior Delahaye
Can see this growing and growing, think I'll jump back into it now. And it is just me or is there a lot of albums out there named Showcase?

Link

One More Thing:
Watch this space as I try to rank all 24 Bond theme songs later (Not counting those non-Eon ones), from A-Ha right through to Madonna.

There sure is, and a chart compiling my favourites is in the works. Essentially a 'showcase' is an LP with the vocal and dub side-by-side, as with that fabulous Junior Delahaye LP (kudos to Satie for the original heads-up) and a whole host of others in the early 80s and throughout the Dancehall era (Sugar Minott perhaps being the biggest exponent). Wackies - the US label where Junior Delahaye and indeed Horace Andy's Dancehall Style come from (another great example of the style) - is by far and a way the best place to head for such a record, although there are a couple of other examples, specifically:

Rub-A-Dub Style by Michigan & Smiley

Ninja Showcase by Courtney Melody

(aka Ninja Mi Ninja Showcase in the UK)

and of course...

Which isn't a Showcase album in the truest sense, but rather a compilation of Miller's vocal tracks immediately followed by the dubs as separate tracks, most of which ended up on...

King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown by Augustus Pablo

Ah, thanks for clearing it up, it all makes sense now, I've listened to a number of albums like that but the idea never clicked in my head until now, I will no doubt be stealing some recs from that chart in the future, may even start my own chart once I'm confident enough with reggae, dub et al as a whole, my wishlist is now growing rapidly though! Stumbled across Wackies a few times of late also and shall be diving into but never thought too much into it until now, will go digging there also!

Big fan of King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown too, but think I slightly prefer East Of The River Nile.

As previously promised and as a break from some of the reggae talk (Even if I am using that to hoover up some fantastic recs, more on that later), here's my ranking of all 24 James Bond film theme songs to date, some decent, some terrible, fuck knows why I just spent half an hour doing this, enjoy!

01: A-Ha - The Living Daylights (1987)

Link

02: Duran Duran - A View To A Kill (1985)

Link

03: Tina Turner - GoldenEye (1995)

Link

04: John Barry - Dr. No (1962)

Link

05: Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger (1964)

Link

06: Paul McCartney & Wings - Live & Let Die (1973)
07: Tom Jones - Thunderball (1965)
08: Madonna - Die Another Day (2002)
09: Chris Cornell - Casino Royale (2006)
10: Shirley Bassey - Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
11: Matt Monro - From Russia With Love (1963)
12: Jack White & Alicia Keys - Quantum Of Solace (2008)
13: John Barry - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
14: Gladys Knight - Licence To Kill (1989)
15: Shirley Bassey - Moonraker (1979)
16: Rita Coolidge - Octopussy (1983)
17: Adele - Skyfall (2012)
18: Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice (1967)
19: Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only (1981)
20: Sam Smith - Spectre (2015)
21: Lulu - The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)
22: Carly Simon - The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
23: Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
24: Garbage - The World Is Not Enough (1999)

Rough work overall, as towards the end a lot of them blend together, but fuck it.
