Is it really that good.

There have been well over 150,000 different albums made since 1940. Out of all of these albums O.K. Computer is the #1 ranked album. I made a list of albums that I believe are either classic, or at the least, great albums. I feel most people would love to have, or add many of these albums to their collection.

(1) Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan
(2) Heroes - David Bowie
(3) The Wild Hunt - The Tallest Man On Earth
(4) The Pretenders - The Pretenders
(5) Animals - Pink Floyd
(6) The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
(7) Goodbye and Hello - Tim Buckley
(Cool Lightbulb Sun - Porcupine Tree
(9) Madman Across The Water - Elton John
(10)There Is Nothing Left To Lose - Foo Fighters
(11)Giant Steps - John Coltrane
(12)Bitte Orca - Dirty Projectors
(13)After The Gold Rush - Neil Young
(14)Quadrophenia - The Who
(15)Catch A Fire - Bob Marley and the Wailers
(16)Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath
(17)Sheik Yerbouti - Frank Zappa
(18)The Clash - The Clash
(19)Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
(20)Odessy and Oracle - The Zombies
(21)Close To The Edge - YES
(22)Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd - Lynyrd Skynyrd
(23)Teaser and the Firecat - Cat Stevens
(24)Here's Little Richard - Little Richard
(25)Mellow Gold - Beck
(26)Let England Shake - P.J. Harvey
(27)Moondance - Van Morrison
(28)Low - David Bowie
(29)Music From the Big Pink - The Band
(30)Pretzel Logic - Steely Dan

.

Consider if you would something that I discovered. If you add up ALL 30 of these albums Total Rank Score and COMBINE ALL 30 of them.

It's STILL LESS than just O.K. Computer's Total Rank Score ALONE.

OK Computer is an album that I would always describe as being "pretty good". I have no idea where all of its accolades come from.

O.k. Computer is one of the few albums that I like every song on it, that's enough to get it into my top 50. The songs I guess are just enjoyable.

To me, OK Computer's greatness is simply from a collection of individual mind-blowing moments. "Paranoid Android" provides the first of these moments, with it's "biggest guitar solo in the universe" nominee. "Subterranean Homesick Alien" continues that with it's approachable riff, as does "Exit Music". "Let Down" is a bit of a let down, but then comes "Karma Police", the greatest song ever made.

Several other great moments exist on the second half of the album, but I'd like to end with "The Tourist". I didn't understand this song at first, but now I find that it truly defines the album. When Thom utters the line "don't know where the hell I'm going", I often can't help but break into tears. It's such a beautiful ending to an album, and is one of the few that can give you true inspiration.

I only listen to Airbag, Climbing Up the Walls, and Electrioneering. the others I feel no desire to put on unless I feel the need to listen all the way through to see if I can appreciate it more

I listened to the album with the intention of hating it. I couldn't stand Radiohead fan boys and needed to see what the big deal was. half way through fitter happier I realized this was a very special album. I also have climbing up the walls as my favorite song of all time.

Here's what I think about OK Computer : it's not bad, but nowhere near first spot in music history. To give you an idea, I think it's still better than 11 of the albums you suggested, Gary, and not as good as 18 others (one I've never listened to).

The thing that I find intriguing about the 30 albums I listed is that I added up all 30 of the total rank scores for them and added them up and O.K. Computer still has a higher total rank score than the 30 albums combined.

So I would say O.K. Computer is by far the most beloved album ever. So that's why I just had to ask why.

for me personally it's just a really well thought out album 12 tracks that all need to be there and somehow sound like they were always meant to be there. I also think side 2 is so much stronger than side 1 (Not the biggest fan of Karma Police, I think it's vastly overrated but it still needs to be where it is), those last 4 songs are all masterpieces and ending an album in that manner just makes it all the more grand. It's obviously not in my regular chart because of my 1 album per artist rule, but if I were to do a chart without that rule in place it would be somewhere between 15-30.

More generally or societally i think it speaks wonders that an album be so beloved by public and critics (I've heard it called overrated and I've heard people say i think it's okay but I've never heard anyone say they despise it).
