I find it a genre that's more often bought as a compilation. Aside from songs in the key of life and what's going on I'm not aware of any other great soulful albums or Motown albums that are great but aren't compilations.

Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul by Otis Redding

The Soul Album by Otis Redding

To be honest any of the Otis Redding studio albums are great but these two stand out for me

I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You ...a Franklin

Call Me by Al Green

Make It Happen by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles

Going To A Go-Go by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles

I Can't Stand The Rain by Ann Peebles

There are loads of great soul albums to be honest...in fact a great place to start is by checking out Norman Bates Soul chart.

Yeah it seems everybody beat me to the punch on most of them in addition to some interesting recs . Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder have far more than just one good album (and neither of those that you named is my favorite by a longshot), as do Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Sly & the Family Stone. Nina Simone is like a jazz-blues-soul hybrid and she's amazing. You must be getting your music education from the wrong sources if you think there are only two legit classic albums in this rich and diverse genre.

Okay I know that this album may not fit the description, but to me, the beautiful precious doing the singing was way over looked and couldn't have been any more soul filled and now since the 6th of last month his time down here with us is now a thing of the past which crushes me like crazy, I love him so much!!! Sad Sad Sad

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. I just wish that it had not taken his going forward in order for me to realize who I had been missing out on all of this time. Of course my being a little kid during his days on the front burner in country music wasn't a help, but still. I couldn't be anymore ashamed of how late I am in finally knowing just how awesome the beautiful precious will always be. Sad Sad Sad
