I'm only really new to this genre / form of music, but I am quite interested in it. However a complication I'm facing is that I don't which are the albums I should listen to. For instance; I've listened to two LPs that are widely considered to be the basics, "Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine & "Painful" by Yo La Tengo. And I've heard various elements of the sound conveyed in acts like Deerhunter, Lotus Plaza, DIIV, Galaxie 500, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Wild Nothing, Warpaint, Youth Lagoon, The War On Drugs, Beach House and Car Seat Headrest. If any one could propose some albums please, that would be doing me an immense favour. (Some artists aforementioned may be more along the lines of Dream Pop. If so, I would also be open to suggestions of that genre as well please.)

Sunbather by Deafheaven

New Bermuda by Deafheaven

Deafheaven often get described as part shoegaze (black metal + shoegaze = blackgaze, to be specific). This may or may not float your boat.

These are really good but I would love a censored version with Whirr redacted after the year they've had. Assholes don't deserve any more attention or money. You could check out Nothing instead, similar band with I think some overlap but I know the real problem guy in Whirr isn't in there. Just know that instead of the weird, rape-threatening/tumblr-trolling/anti-transgender activist in Whirr, you'll end up with the guy convicted of attempted murder from Nothing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Amywho here's some good shoegaze from this year:

Hyperview by Title Fight

Production heavy, very washed out shoegaze

I Wasn't Born To Lose You by Swervedriver

Didn't blow me away but was alright, I know others loved it, decently good comeback for these 90s rockers.

Dying by Spectres

Noise-heavy shoegaze, bordering on noise rock frankly.

Peripheral Vision by Turnover

Same producer as Title Fight, but a very different sound, much more refined, cleaner riffs that still have a similar influence in being so sort of airy and blurred.
