Craig Mack, best known for the 1994 hit "Flava in Ya Ear" has passed today, aged 46. One of the first to release an album on Diddy's Bad Boy record label. Apparently he was spending some time in a cult according to one article. I'm interested in whatever that story is.

Here's his album, that I had neglected to add to my 1994 list along with his one hit, for those that may not know.

Project: Funk Da World by Craig Mack

I like how he's wearing a KC Chiefs jersey on the album cover, and then a Tampa Bay Lightning jersey in the video. He's from New York, but that's just how 90's hip hop was. As a long as what a giant jersey I don't think many people cared.

Damn, that sucks.

I experienced Cecil Taylor a little too early in my jazz listening career. Conquistador made my head explode, but I certainly am cool with it now. A must listen for anyone.

It was 20 years ago today that we lost country legend Tammy Wynette.

God bless you and her family always!!!

In my mind, Cecil Taylor is a contender for not just the greatest jazz musician but simply the greatest musician and is undoubtedly the greatest pianist I have ever heard. Unit Structures, Conquistador, and Silent Tongues get their due but the late '70s to the early '90s is where I believe his creative peak lies; I suggest:

I'd suggest prioritizing Leaf Palm Hand and The Hearth; if you dig the piano/drum duo, then move on to Riobec and Remembrance from there. Not a bad album in the box though, and only two or three that aren't contenders for his best recordings. The box as a whole is easily his best collaborative recording effort, even though it doesn't feature his classic relationships with Jimmy Lyons or Andrew Cyrille. Garden is probably his best solo recording (but Erzulie Maketh Scent is right there behind it, along with a couple others)

So I want to point that Avicii has passed away. Wasn't a fan of his music. However, losing his life at 28 is pretty fucked up.

Exactly my thoughts. Poor guy, died in Oman so far from his home and family, how fucked up is that? Does anyone know why he passed?
