Hey guys. I'm looking for some good hip-hop to listen to. I'm fairly uneducated when it comes to the genre.

Here are some albums that I love already:

Good Kid Maad City/TPAB
Acid Rap
Aquemini
MBDTF/Yeezus
The Low End Theory
Madvillany
1999

I usually like lyrically intelligent/chill stuff. Not so much hardcore/trap stuff.

Thanks!!!

Check out either Earl Sweatshirt albums. He's definitely a "chill" rapper. If you liked Madvillainy then take a look at:

Piñata by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib

and

The Unseen by Quasimoto

I'll let others take it from here.

Innercity Griots by Freestyle Fellowship

i feel about Innercity Griots and most traditional forms of hip hop the way Piero Scaruffi does about Trout Mask Replica and rock music. it's an absolutely unimpeachable classic of the genre that everyone should have in their collection, and despite not really listening to much old school hip hop anymore, i find myself returning to it consistently.

yeah seconded on this one. Personally I prefer To Whom it May Concern.. by just a bit but both are among my favorite albums of all time in any genre

Definitely check earlier Kanye, Late Registration and Graduation are both incredible (The College Dropout isn't bad but I think doesn't stand up to either of those). Also solo MF DOOM, who is half of Madvillain if you weren't aware. Same goes for Andre 3000's repitoire and the rest of Outkast's stuff.

I guess here's other stuff:

Tetsuo & Youth by Lupe Fiasco

If you've heard any of Lasers, don't judge, he actually can rap.

A Special Episode Of by Open Mike Eagle

A cool, short little project that seems pretty up your alley.

RawHyde by Jeremiah Jae & Oliver The 2nd

Basically the closest I think anyone's coming to getting down the Madvillain sound outside of DOOM and Madlib themselves.

Below The Heavens by Blu & Exile

A popular one on this site that I don't really hear about anywhere else, but one of the first albums that helped get me into hip-hop.

There's also this if you're willing to get a little weirder:

Square by Buck 65

Blazing Arrow by Blackalicious
Just listen. Trust me.

Southsiders by Atmosphere
Atmosphere's Slug is a great story teller. This is their newest release, but I recommend digging into all of their stuff.

The Night Took Us In Like Family by L'O...remiah Jae
My Favorite of last year (other than TPAB).

Link

Brother Ali is another awesome story teller. Very politically charged, and full of a great energy. Here's a good starting point.

I could go on for days.. But I'm sure you don't have the time to sit through all of these posts. Check out my charts if you feel like it. They're mostly hip hop.

Looks like a lot of the good stuff has been suggested already, but here are some others.

Flying Colours by Shad

a really underrated, fun hip hop album

Deltron 3030 by Deltron 3030

my favorite hip hop album.

Enta Da Stage by Black Moon

Might be a little dark, but I love this album.

CLPPNG by clipping.

History Will Absolve Me by Billy Woods

These two are some of my favorites of the last several years.
