I'd like to do it, if I can give y'all a link to one of my shared Dropbox folders. Otherwise, I'll hold off until I can find ten songs that I want to put together to show off that are also on Spotify.

I wouldn't mind having dropbox (or mixcloud) shared folders as an alternate approach. I mean the project doesn't have to be exclusively limited to spotify does it?

i'm guessing that we're trying to keep this as open as possible to people who don't want any grayness about the legality of playlist distribution, but if it matters at all, i'd also participate if we were to use an outside service. the Spotify interface is incredibly clunky and the library is incredibly narrow for my tastes, so i wouldn't really have anything to add here. only piping up cause it seems like others are in a similar boat.

I’m sure this is the route albummaster would prefer us to take since the legality of similar games have always been an issue to admins on other [similar] sites. Whilst I have nothing against dropbox (albeit I know little about 8tracks and mixcloud), I feel like this is the way to go. It is created as a community project through Spotify and since it serves as a useful [legal] utility I think while we should get as many people involved as possible we shouldn’t walk the line here. If the Sonemic AOTW can function through Spotify I don’t see why this can’t. I’m pretty sympathetic towards personal taste issues towards Spotify’s database (as Satie mentions) though and If I have more knowledge of fully legal alternatives I might consider them as exceptions.

don't know why it's an issue if people decide to use something else other than Spotify (such as 8tracks which just uses YouTube links iirc)

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

I mean, I feel like as long as people link to something legal, it shouldn't matter what platform it is, as long as it's one that's easily accessible.

If 8tracks indeed just uses youtube links, that would be a legal alternative I’d allow then, yes.

The only problem I see with external playlists is people will refuse to listen to those who made their playlists through Spotify and set a sort of bad precedent about the project. Because if nobody is really listening to the other works then the project will fall apart quickly.

This is a great idea, I'd take May 1-7 (week before is my finals is the only reason I'm being difficult)

Unless 8tracks changed recently, it doesn't use YouTube links. It just streams from files uploaded by the playlist creator (after they're verified). It's really easy to use though, and has a mobile app too.

What does a verification entail? If it is still sketchy legally, I’m going to have to say no then.
