I realize there are a lot of people who would disagree, but to me, this is the best Beck album. He always fleshes out his ideas to the fullest, even if it works against a song or album (I'm looking at you, The Information), and Sea Change represents what that looks like under one cohesive banner. I spent about two years sifting through these tracks. First, with the first half of the record (through "It's All In Your Mind")and then coming back to the second half with a new-found appreciation. Is it fun, goofy, and intricately sampled? No, this is another side of Beck that appreciates layering, lyric-craft, and Serge Gainsbourg all with a heartbroken twist.

Would recommend for listeners who pay attention to small instrumental details, acoustic guitar music, atmosphere, and/or all broken hearts.

It changes regularly for me, but often Sea Change and Odelay swap places in the #1 spot.

The essential break-up album, for my money; above even Blood on the Tracks and Tunnel of Love.
