Dear Regina gets dragged kicking and stuttering into the mainstream. It is arranged like a pop album, with the more accessible material stacked at the beginning and her less conventional songs at the end, but the whole feels very uneven for me. I find her vocal idiosyncrasies make more sense in her earlier albums, where she seems less restrained and smoothed over. Songs especially is very beautiful.
I love this album -- it was the first Regina Spektor that I universally liked. Her earlier albums (to me) seemed uneven but this one improved considerably. Funny and quirky lyrics.
