Because nobody has replied...

You probably should do something by Slayer... ahhaha.

Just kidding, obviously.

To be honest, if I think back to weddings I've been too... nobody remembers the song that was chosen, they remember the moment and people involved.

Like do you remember the song you first danced with a girl at say high school prom... no probably not. Do you remember who it was with and what it was like... probably.

I guess what I'm saying is even though details matter in a wedding and it is an important thing... in the end nobody will really care... most likely.

Having said that my best friend danced with his wife to Walking After You by the Foo Fighters... I only remember that because Foo Fighters almost was 30% of that friendship... ahhaha.

I don't know, Time After Time by Cyndie Lauper maybe? The best types of song to play for the situations you're describing are going to be ones that have some kind of personal touch.

I mostly just know the songs that are massively overplayed, like as in almost every damn wedding. I used to work as a caterer, and I did a lot of weddings. Cupid Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, Single Ladies, etc... Don't do it...unless you want to. It's your fucking wedding, do whatever you want.

Do try to avoid Disney songs though, as in from the movies. Only the worst people do that. The worst.

Dancing Queen by Abba. Haven't been to a wedding without one, usually brings tears to someone's eyes because of the bride.

I made a whole CD of wedding songs and gave them to our wedding guests as favours/gifts when I got married. As for first dances, there's a bucketload you could choose from and I'm not going to suggest one as its such a personal thing. We toyed with so many, finally settling on Be My Baby by The Ronettes after Mrs. Dread rejected my choice (I'll Be Your Mirror) 5 seconds after listening to it for the first time. My brother had You & Me Song by The Wannadies, which was a pretty decent choice (nicked off aforementioned CD, no less).

Father/daughter and mother/son songs are a whole different ball game. Right now I can think of only one song that ticks most of the boxes. Not only that, but it works on about a zillion different levels. A song from a parent to their child, but given the context/tears flowing, etc. a response from the child to the parent not to bawl their eyes out at what after all can be just as emotional a day for them as it is for the bride/groom. Moreover, given that it's ostensibly about trying to calm a young infant, it's almost symbolic of the passing of the baton from parent to child for them to start a family. The lyrics are beautiful (although there is a mention of 'pretty blue eyes' - might not work), it's slow but not slow enough not to have a little dance to, and is quite simply one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard (and it just happens to come from my overall #1 LP, so forgive the bias). It's this:

Nice one. I think 'Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' is also worth consideration.
