My roommate just recommended me the new Forest Swords album and damn I wasn't expecting an AOTY contender. Definitely going to give it another listen or two this week since the weather forecast is foggy, perfectly complimenting the atmosphere of the album. _________________ ...and for dessert!

Kool Keith Sweat wrote: | Just finished up listening to and subsequently purchasing Matthias Müller's solo trombone. Excellent free improvisation and it's not every day you come across a solo trombone record. Also found out he's post of Germany's Splitter Orchestra, which had an excellent collaboration with another great trombonist, George Lewis, last year, if you missed it.

gave this a listen on bandcamp and yeah I am going to need to buy this. really fantastic, don't know the earlier stuff so I will be checking that out for sure.
I did spend some money on that USA/MEXICO album, that's on bandcamp now. if anyone missed when it was mentioned earlier, it is amazing loud rock music that is so simple in structure but transcends the dumbness with really intelligently deployed soft touches (and a few hard ones) and reaches this point that feels so amazing, don't miss this one you guys.
also the new Bellows album coming out on Shelter Press is really great. Some super compelling awkward rhythms.
oh shit I haven't mentioned Konrad Sprenger in here yet.

Stack Music by Konrad Sprenger
this is like some mechanically played guitars and synths getting into some cosmic territory, evolving patterns blah blah not groundbreaking in that regard but it just sounds so good and has all these little quirks and each track brings something new to the table, I am loving it

The George Lewis/Splitter Orchestra collab is available on Spotify; despite really enjoying it, I've never given anything else from the orchestra a go simply because I didn't recognize the collaborators but, if you find anything, let me know. If you like that type of improvisation, then you might also like (from this year):

The Complete Syllables Music by Nate Wooley
First two pieces are solo acoustic and third piece is electro-acoustic (and the new piece; the other two are reissues); all are gargantuan, with the first two around an hour and the third around two and a half. Nate Wooley has a significantly greater command over his instrument than Matthias Müller does, and is able to tease sounds out of the trumpet that no other trumpeter has done before.
And I fully intend to go through your top 10 of the year at least a few points throughout the year

In love with this album right now, can't think of anything else like it. It's like indie punk hip hop or something. Bits of Frank Ocean, bits of Death Grips, bits of midwest Emo. Never takes a turn you expect but feels amazingly cohesive. Anthems for the kids.

It's pretty good, but sounds a bit too samey compared to Engravings, for example. _________________ http://distranscontinuum.blogspot.co.uk/

I'm listening to two completely Jasons at the same time:

The Nashville Sound by Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit
Mainly with a country twang, ie not really my taste (just listening to Tupelo which is supposed to be the highlight) but sometimes he's approaching Bruce Springsteen heights.

Spooky Action by Jason Loewenstein
This is the second solo album of that second Sebadoh member after Lou Barlow the influence of whom on Sebadoh can't be underestimated. I've just started to listen and I must say I like it very much but then again: I'm a huge fan of Sebadoh.
and finally I would like to renew my recommendation for this Belgian album with American roots:

You don't have to like it but just listen to it and tell me what you think of it...
