Nope. Whoops! Thanks for the catch!

Might be some others like that, simply due to pulling the entries from a slightly older version.

I haven't yet seen the rest that you list, but all of these are excellent, even if I'd probably rate most of them just below 7.3/10. City of God is exceptionally edited and rivetingly alive, reminiscent of Scorsese in his heyday. Spirited Away is quite imaginative and probably among the best animated films of all time (was it an inspiration for Pan's Labyrinth?). There Will Be Blood is an excellent psychological character study and of greed, etc, perhaps the best film you list, and has been off and on my list a few times. In the Mood for Love is superb, visually quite remarkable of course, and another example of one that falls just short of my list upon last viewing. I do prefer 2046 slightly. Noe is interesting, his provocations and format for Irreversible keeps it startling in places and compelling. Enter the Void, in it's first person perspective and afterlife sequences, has quite a bit to recommend it. I'm just not sure how effective he is emotionally/conceptually. He seems somewhat cold -- undoubtedly a technical genius, but possibly a bit more novelty than conveying requisite depth of emotion/concept in his shots and editing. Deserves a re-watch though, as it might be among the most original films of the decade. Le Samourai, The Leopard and Color of Pomegranates are all seminal films that I need to re-watch. Color of Pomegranates should probably be on my list, and the other two it's just been too long. Russian Ark was interesting, but more a (very impressive) technical feat that seemed somewhat shallow to me (perhaps there's more there than I caught on to though, could use a rewatch).

wow! Just wanna say this thread is awe-inspiring! Your knowledge and enthusiasm for film is insanely refreshing! And I will be returning to this for recommendations as time goes by.

I did a quick search through your massive list to see if there was any Satyajit Ray. I didn't notice any, but i may have missed it.

I imagine his master works which, for me, are Apur Sansur (The World of Apu) and Charulata (The Lonely Woman), would be right up your alley. They're poetic, masterfully shot, quiet and beautiful in the extreme. I consider Satyajit Ray to be my favorite director ever. 5 of his films are top 70 all time, and the Music Room is on the fringe of that level - also a classic.

I suppose, if you've seen Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansur, The Big City, Charulata, The Music Room, Days and Nights in the Forest, or any other Ray film, what are your thoughts? If you haven't seen any of them yet, I wholeheartedly recommend them to you. The World of Apu is his greatest but its film 3 of a trilogy (my favorite trilogy ever). Charulata or The Big City are stand alone works of genius. Both feature mesmerizing performances by one of my favorites screen actors ever, Madhabi Mukherjee. And the cinematography work by Subatra Mitra on Charulata (and many other Ray collabs, but Charulata in particular) is breathtaking.

Anyway, that's all. I may seem like a broken record always mentioning the same director over and over on these forums, but I really do love him dearly.

Nope, not interested in the cinematic art form at all. Just the "entertainment" side of it Wink

Thank you! Smile I do like Ray a lot actually. If I were to include films in the 7/10 range (6.8-7.2) there would be hundreds more entries, and several by him would probably make it. Pather Panchali is supposed to be on this list, and I thought it was, so I'll have to correct that. Aparajito and Charulata may be need to be included as well.

I see Razz Laughing

What I was referring to, by the way, were your generally lower ratings of films as compared to other artforms.
