PLEASE READ AND ENSURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE OP BEFORE POSTING YOUR SELECTIONS

So, what are the Top 50 Greatest Songs, Tracks or Movements of All Time?

Please submit your selections below in the thread.

The rules are as follows: you choose any song or track, or movement (as in, Classical Music) across the entire history of music: Rock, Jazz, Classical and all music offshoots/sub-genres. There are no length limitations. An entry can be an entire 1-track album (like Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz) or a few second song like The Beatles' Her Majesty (at the tail-end of Abbey Road), etc.

Any uninterrupted series of two or more songs/tracks/movements can count as well (for instance, the Medley from The Beatles' Abbey Road, or Beethoven's entire 14th String Quartet), so long as it was created this way by the artist. In these cases, one must submit the selection in that form (and not just a single piece within that), because this is the whole song or work as intended by the artist. In other words, Polythene Pam (from Abbey Road) is an ineligible selection by itself because it is part of the "Abbey Road Medley", which must be submitted as such.

You may submit up to 50 entries and as few as 10 for your list to be considered for the overall results.

Only official releases/published works count. No bootlegs or miscellaneous recordings off Youtube, etc.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU FORMAT YOUR ENTRIES AS PER THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLES:

Rock/Jazz - Single Song/Track
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana - Nevermind - Track #1 (1991)

Rock/Jazz - Single Song/Track - Released Separately from an Album
Song - Artist (Year)

Classical Music - Single Song/Movement
Allegro maestoso – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major – 1st Movement (1785)
NOTE: To make it easy on yourself for Classical movement titles, I recommend copying and pasting from wikipedia.

Rock/Jazz - 2+ Continuous Songs/Tracks (but not the whole album)
Pursuance/Psalm - John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - Tracks 3 & 4 (1964)
You Never Give Me Your Money/Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came in Through the Bathroom Window/Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End - The Beatles - Abbey Road - Tracks 9-16 (1969)

Rock/Jazz - Listed Song(s)/Track(s) are continuous and constitute the whole album
La Novia - Acid Mothers Temple - La Novia - Track #1 [entire album] (2000)
Ascension - John Coltrane - Ascension - Track #1 [entire album] (1965)

Classical Music - Listed Song(s)/Movements(s) are continuous and constitute the whole album
String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor - Ludwig van Beethoven - String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor - Movements 1-7 [entire work] (1826)
Fantasia in F Minor for Piano, Four Hands - Franz Schubert - Fantasia in F Minor for Piano, Four Hands – Movements 1-4 [entire work] (1828)

It is very annoying/time consuming to tally results when they are not easily verifiable and when they are not so easy to copy and paste and match. Sorry, but I am extremely busy and just don't have time to correct various users that don't read the OP. It is much less time consuming for you to ensure it is correct to begin with than for me to correct and tally the incomplete entries of multiple users. If your submissions don't follow the above rules, I will request they are fixed once, maybe a second or third time before tallying. I don't mind these first two or three reminders so much, but after that, if still not fixed, I will simply not include them. So, please, just avoid all the hassle by reading and understanding and applying this the first time. It is not hard at all to do.

And one more thing: Good friggin' luck coming up with your list! May the force be with you and may you still have hair afterwards!

This was a very difficult list to put together. I hope you're up for the challenge!

NOTE: This will almost certainly change before the deadline. While everything here is worthy of such a list, in my opinion ... there are still obvious omissions, such as, at least 2 (if not all 3) Acts from Wagner's Tristan & Isolde being included. Many other possibilities abound -- so many infact -- that it's difficult to wrap my head around. I'm probably satisfied, at least mostly, with my Rock and Jazz selections, but there are many I would consider among Classical Works that I haven't revisited in a long time ... but ... it remains that I still need to revisit them to be sure... Will update accordingly as I replace what's on here. As it stands, it was very challenging to put in order and decide on which to include, which to leave out. Much more torturous than the "Greatest Works of Art" poll for me.

NOTE TO ALL WHO SHALL DARE TO TAKE ON THIS IMPOSSIBLE TASK:

For now, use how I list my own selections as your key to listing the titles, artists, etc, instead of how it is presented in the OP. I will update the OP soon to show this.

For Classical works, go to wikipedia and simply copy and paste its titles for the movements. This makes it much easier.

Let me know if you're planning on contributing to this poll, even if you're not ready to make a list of your entries quite yet.

Otherwise, I'm going to shut it down/close it soon.

It appears I may have been under the false impression that such a poll was something people wanted to do, but so far it seems that perhaps this is not the case after all? Maybe this became a fallacious attempt at a solution that was actually unneeded, and that no one truly wanted to begin with?

I also get the feeling there are users out there that might be interested and are just thinking about it (because it is, after all, very difficult to come up with such a list).

So just let me know please, so I know whether to keep it posted or not. No worries either way, I just don't want to have my attention on monitoring this if it's not going to be contributed to.

Here's BEA's top 100 Songs:
https://open.spotify.com/user/122614575...F4T5RrStof

But as for me - I still have to see if I want to finish greatest works of all time and I'm working on my art music list, so re-visiting this any time soon is unlikely, even though it does sound really fun to me. I mean in seriousness actually comparing songs and saying well this is better than that one, etc.

Here's my top 100 songs I rated 100 though... hehe (looks like I barely made it into the A's and I'm totally fine if you don't submit this into any poll):

I think you misunderstood what people in the other thread wanted.

In any event, give this one time. I'm sure there are enough people interested.

No misunderstanding, but this is the closest to honoring all requests without starting the "Works of Art" poll over, which would piss way more people off than the 2-3 it would've perhaps made happy.

I agree that time could prove worthwhile here. Should be a fascinating poll if enough people join. Otherwise, you guys might have to live with my entry being the "final results" too. I wouldn't mind Laughing
