With recent newfound love of Prog Rock albums such as In The Court and especially half a dozen Yes albums, I have decided to really delve into this sub genre of Rock music.
And as for fusion we’ll i also recently have grown to appreciate it more than ever. So that as well.
Open to recommendations bybyou Prog and fusion fans about truly landmark releases in the genre that I need to get into.
Rocking to this right now
Selling England By The Pound by Genesis
And it’s blowing my mind. Chart worthy level genius on display. _________________ -Ryan

thanks, bobby. I'll check those out.
now i'm visualizing the mount rushmore of prog and their 7 prime best albums per music sites like ours and RYM etc. (I did cut off the debut of a couple and I even left a gap of an album but this is the 28 classic studio albums I need to dig into.)
Also, no Floyd, cuz fuck those guys. (okay, I added them too, cuz why not.)
In The Court... - Time And Word - Trespass - Stand Up - Ummagumma
In The Wake... - Yes Album - Nursery Cryme - Benefit - Atom Heart Mother
Lizard - Fragile - Foxtrot - Aqualung - Meddle
Islands - Close To Edge - Selling England - Thick As Brick - Dark Side Moon
Larks' Tongue - Topographic - Lamb Lies Down - Minstrel in Gallery - Wish You Here
Starless - Relayer - Trick of Tail - Songs From Wood - Animals
Red - Going For One - Wind Wuthering - Heavy Horses - The Wall
of note is all first albums included came out within 12 months of each other. Crimson's last classic was an 81 release, Floyd was 79, Tull's last was from 78 and Yes from 77 and Genesis was not only the most recent earliest album included but also the earliest last, so they seemed to have a burst for 6 years. EDIT: I just took out Discipline and put in Starless and Bible Black. So...that a whopping 7 albums in 5 yuears for Crimson. Still am going to get to Discipline.
No live albums although I hear a lot of these groups released great live albums too.
given a close listen or 2 to 2/7 King Crimson albums, 5/7 Yes albums, 3/7 Genesis, 1/7 Tull, and 5/7 Floyd albums included here. So, have a lot of listening to do if I intend to pit these albums against each other in a sort of game format.
year breakdown, I mean 1973 has Selling England, Larks' Tongue, DSOTM and the underrated and bloated Tales From Topographic Oceans. 1972 may be e ven more stacked with Close To The Edge, Foxtrot and Thick as a Brick, where Tull and Floyd skipped that calendar year altogether.
But how about 71? Is it the best with Meddle, Fragile, Aqualung, Nursery Cryme and Islands? I mean all bands are represented all classic.
1974 has a distinct heaviness and scope with Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Red, Relayer and a second Crimson in Starless and Bible Black.
anyway, that is all. _________________ -Ryan

I think prog lasted a lot longer than people say, I mean it's influence is staggering, and could be felt through the 80s. I'd study 66->~~90

1982. Gonna delve somewhat deeply into 1982. I’m not terribly familiar with this era of music. 1970s? Big time. 1990s? You betcha. But the 80s and very specifically and mathematically I discovered 1982 is sort of the perfect mid point of my tastes where the 2 worlds of the music I put most of my time into stretches out from in both directions. A long winded way of saying: I looked at my top 100 albums, added up the years and divided by 100 and voila! 1982 is the winner, it’s the average age of my fave albums. Really exactly 13 years before and after seem to be the real years which get the most attention. So looking forward to it. _________________ -Ryan
