I've yet to really get into Talk Talk. I've listened to their albums a few times, but never really clicked. Not bad, just didn't click.

As a lover of electronic music, I've never understood why people love this guy so much. Mostly it's people who mainly like rock that think highly of this. However, he does have one great record: It's My Life from way back in 1981 or something. Its a true new wave classic. Deservingly so. It really takes off and grabs hold of you. It was a great single. But this is the one his fans dismiss as not good. Go figure.

I mean, excluding the time they pioneered the post-rock genre at the end of the decade right?

Pioneered the post-rock genre? Is that what they're claiming?

I don't know if they ever claimed it, but it's pretty widely agreed that Talk Talk and Slint were some of the heaviest influencers. You'd be pretty hard pressed to read anything about post-rock without mention of Talk Talk.

My point being that their early synthpop isn't usually what they get recognised for, at least outside of radio-play (BBC Radio 2 can't get enough of Talk Talk by Talk Talk)

Fitst of all, post rock isnt really a thing. Its just a name they came up with when people who liked rock started to like electronic music, and they needed to explain why they suddenly realized that electronic music was good. So they said " well, it's really ROCK, that's why it's good!!!". They had to make it seem like it was something new that THEY discoveted. In the same way that when 70s punk rockers realized they liked disco and dance, and wanted to make dance records now, they couldn't admit that cuz it wasnt cool. So they renamed it post-punk. To make it seem as tho THEY had invented something new. This is what hipsters do when they start to like music which they previously mocked or dismissed. They rename it.

I think you've got the wrong definition of post-rock. Post-rock typically has very few electronic influences, normally its influences are jazz or classical or ambient. It's definitely a thing, and I don't think it has anything to do with hipsters.

Give it a listen, you might like it.

I have that album and i already listened to it. And yes, that's true about post rock's supposed influences, but it was still nothing new. And ambient IS electronic music. And when most people talk about post rock, they dont mean the jazz stuff. They mean the electronic.
