the doors is a good band name? could you elaborate on that?

i mean, the windows - with some hesitation, i could get on board with that. but the doors...... i'm hoping there's something deeper to that i'm missing. i've always thought the doors was pretty flaccid.

i feel like a lot of bands *seem* to have good band names because we're familiar with their music, but removed from context are pretty s****y.

Maybe he has a different explanation, but what I've always heard is that it means Iike "the doors of your mind". Kind of mind expansion, 60s stuff. Mystical type bullshit. " open the doors of your mind" type shit.

edit: says the chap who thinks weather report is a dope name, so take it with a grain of salt.

On its own it would be pretty worthless, but here it is just how succinct and fitting it is, from the William Blake quote: "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."

The actual sound of their songs simulate this idea, as if "the doors of perception" have opened up into each "experience" (the "spacious echo" of the production, how Morrison's voice sounds like it's coming from "the other side", and then of course the surrealism/Dali-esque landscapes of songs like The End etc)

Don't believe they've recorded or toured for a while so easy for them to fade from memory. Personally Like the ones with artsy or historical connections. Caberet Voltaire, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Cocteau Twins, The Go Betweens and the like. Having said that I'm dissapointed to not come across a band called Bend it Like Rectum.

Joy Division
Sonic Youth (most teen-angsty band name I've ever heard)
The Velvet Underground
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem
Tame Impala
Talking Heads
Daft Punk
Animal Collective (It would work better if they were all animals, not just Panda Bear, but it's still a cool name)
Flatbush Zombies
OutKast
Tortoise (I like how it's singular)
Smashing Pumpkins (I like how Smashing could be an adjective describing the pumpkins, or it could be a verb as in "We are smashing pumpkins.)
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Stereolab
Soundgarden
Electric Wizard

Megadeth - a term for one million human deaths, usually caused by a nuclear explosion. Though it's spelled Megadeath in the definition interest of course.

Always thought ten benson was a good name. Don't know why. Kunt and the gang is good too. There was a local band once that I saw a poster for called "Kate's Bush". Bit of class. I would have joined that band no matter how shit they were.
