- Post subject: Drum Talk, Recommend me some Drum Albums!
|
Hello all. Recently, a user started a thread asking for recommendations on guitar albums and there were some very cool suggestions there. Thus, I kindly ask you to share with me nothing more than the album(s) featuring your favorite drumming. I know drumming isn't as vastly discussed like guitar is, but let's change that.
In November, I can say I've played drums for 9 years. I teach and play in a band. It's what I love. I have a extensive list of influences and favorite players/albums, etc.. but I am always looking to add to said list.
Of course I ask for your favorite, so please share whatever that may be, just know if it's Rush I've already heard it
Can't wait to see some albums, thanks guys! _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Thanks so much for your contributions. Looks like I have some homework. Rich and Roach has been on my to-listen list for a while. By "Drum albums" I basically mean whatever you believe to have great drumming or percussion on it.
You don't have to slight Neil, even though I namedropped Rush I still want to see them here. Especially Moving Pictures. I believe that to be the most complete Rush album first of all. In large part thanks to the immaculate prog rock drumming Peart lays down. It was the peak of his technicality meeting conscientious musical structure. It kind of all came together for him on Moving Pictures and it's one of the most influential albums for drummers ever. Love it. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Tortoise, sometimes with four members on percussion on a track, is probably the peak of percussive rhythms in rock music (there is that Bumps record). If you count electronic music, then Autechre's "drum" work is unparalled. Here's some interesting, "traditional" solo percussion records though:

And then some of my favorite percussionists, from which I haven't heard solo records and that I didn't already mention above, would be, in no order: Lee Harris; Britt Walford; Le Quan Ninh; Jim White; Chris Hakias; Jaki Liebzeit; Doug Scharin; Steve Noble; Ed Blackwell.
